I went shopping today and had a complimentary facial at a cosmetics counter. Well....that started the "pampering" binge. {grin}So, I stopped at a salon and tried something new: deep conditioning. The conditioner was applied and rubbed in, and a plastic bag was put on my head, and I sat under a warm dryer. After 10 minutes, the hair dryer automatically became cooler for about five minutes, and my hair was rinsed. Background: I had long hair, but now have short and am growing it back out. However, my hair is usually treated very gently (no chemicals or heating implements) and is quite soft. However, after the conditioner, it was like pure silk!Question 1) If you use a deep conditioner, how often do you use it (and do you use a warm dryer with it?) and do you regularly use heating implements and/or coloring or perms?Question 2) My scalp seems pretty normal, not excessively oily or dry. My hair is pretty normal too, but tends to be more on the oily side than dry, if I had to choose. However, I've read several sources that say conditioner should just be applied to the ends, not the scalp at all. My hair is above shoulder length and it's impossible not to touch the scalp at all with deep conditioning. Does anyone know -- is there any harm with conditioner touching the scalp?BTW, you know that I asked the name of the conditioner. {grin} The stylist told me it was a conditioning balm by Biolage (Matrix). I don't really have anything with which to compare it, so I can't really rave or complain about it! I do imagine, though, that about any conditioner used like that might produce silky hair, at least initially, though. This is one area in which I am most unfamiliar. Thanks!Jena
>>Hello Jena:I used to use Biolage products. A very good product line. My hair is dry so I used to use the conditioner every day and the deep conditioner every second day but that was for me and it really worked.>>
Hi Diane :)Waving to Jena over there~~~~~~~~You mentioned in your post you "used to use" Biolage products. Can I ask, why you stopped using them? I'm curious. Thanks!!MariaRelated Link:Maria In Mass

Hello. I do deep conditioning treatments on a regular basis. I use Terax Crema Original Hair Treatment once a week with a heat cap. It's a large plastic hair cap with vented holes in it and it attaches to a hose that is hooked into a large box. You plug the box into the wall and it blows hot air through the hose into the heat cap. I use it for 10 minutes on high power, 10 minutes on low power, then let my hair cool for 10 minutes. As far as putting conditioner on the scalp, there is no harm in doing so. People with oily scalps are advised to avoid conditioner near the scalp to cut down on oiliness.

I will probably go back to it next year.

People with oily scalps are> advised to avoid conditioner near the scalp to cut> down on oiliness.Hi, I have oily hair so I've cut the conditioning down to once a week. The last few days I have started to cold rinse when I'm done. The first time I rinsed with cold water my hair was nice and soft and tangle free. The next time I was due for the conditioner... which I applied only from the ears down to the tips and I rinsed really well. Then I rinsed with cold water really well. When my hair was dry I noticed my forehead was really dry... it was flaking... up to an inch into my foreheard hairline it was flaking also. Now could the cold water rinse be doing that? Or do you think I should start applying the conditioner to my scalp sometimes? Thanks for any help.

Matrix conditioning balm is a good every-day conditioner. You can buy that at most salons and will notice a difference immediately.

I> will probably go back to it next year.I believe your hair will only take what it needs out of a product. If your hair is very dry and you're using a heavy moisturizing product, once your hair is reconditioned that moisturizing product will make your hair heavy. If you're using a dandruff shampoo and the problem clears, there's no need to continue using the dandruff shampoo. Not to mention that with all the new products on the market it's fun to try new things.
