Hi,Last week a couple people gave me some very good advice to rinse with cool water. The first time I tried this my hair had less tangles and felt softer then before. The next time I washed my hair it was time for my weekly conditioning (Pears daily care conditioner). The week before my hair turned out ok... I hadn't started the cool rinsing yet though. This was the first time I used the cool rinse the same day that I conditioned my hair. But for some reason I decided to leave the conditioner in for about 2 minutes before rinsing it out. (only 2 or 3 weeks ago I was using Pantene 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner) After I rinsed out the conditioner (which was applied only from the ears down), then I rinsed with cool water. My hair really poofed out!! I could not believe the volume I got!! But.... it came with a bit of dryness too. An inch or two near the forehead was peeling/flaking... and even my forehead itself was really flaking. When I rubbed my forehead with my finger (not the nail) it looked like it was snowing!!What do you think? Was it because I left the conditioner in? Is this good or bad? Because of this I skipped 2 days of washing my hair to let the oil come back a bit. This is the first time I was able to go that long without washing my hair without it getting too oily. (that's why I don't know if this is good or bad)I loved the volume... but not the flakes. What is the cool rinse for again? Did the combination of the cool rinse and the conditioner have anything to do with it?From the ears down I still have a perm. What is best for my unpermed hair and what is best for my permed hair?P.S. I LOVE this board!!

Hi Liane :)Okay, let me see if I can help you. Now I'm not a doctor, dermatologist (I wish! Think of all the money I could save on diagnosing my own skin! LOL!), or whatever but my scalp flakes if I don't wash it every day. The oil in my hair irritates my skin on my scalp and that makes it flake. Also, if I apply conditioner to my scalp that too will irritate the skin on my scalp and make it flake. But again, that's just me and the way my own scalp works.Try applying your conditioner from the ears down and always rinsing it out. Also, have you ever tried a hair rinse? They are supposed to help get rid of shampoo and conditioner build up and leave hair very clean. You can make your own with apple cider vinegar and also juice from a lemon. I used to use the lemon juice rinse often several years ago and what you do is peel one lemon, squeeze it into a cup, and after shampooing apply that to hair. It will make your hair squeaky clean, help close the cuticles, make it shiny, and soft. In one of the books I have it says it acts not only as a rinse, but also like a conditioner. Try it and let me know what you think. Okay?I really hope I helped. If you have any questions, please let me know. I'm always happy to help anybody here if I can.Maria :)Related Link:Maria In Mass
