I have hair very similar to yours, mine is also 2C about 26.5 inches long. I use ARTec Smoothing shampoo and conditioner and have had great results. My fav deep conditioner is by Rene Furerer and I use it once a week with a heat cap. Because my hair is coarse I try to use protein products every couple of weeks and I think the best protein products are Aveda Shampure and Aveda Currence(sp) conditioner. Since using the products I`ve mentioned I learned to love my coarse, wavy, thick hair.HTH:-)

Hi All,

Thank you for this great topic. I could talk about hair conditioners for hours so please excuse my long and winded post about this fav topic. :-)

I am a conditioning nut and have tried lots of them because I have that thick, very coarse wavy w/ some curls, super dry hair thing going and if I don`t condition at least 2x a week...yipes

My hair is almost 4 inches below my waist so it is pretty long and it has been suffering a little lately due to my high stress life, but hanging in there. I agree that deep conditioning really helps a lot w/ coarse hair.

For deep conditioners I alternate between ARTec Smoothing, Aveda Curressence conditioner, Edwin Paul Deep Conditioner (a lot like ARTec Smoothing although not as thick), ARTec Moisture Pak (still wonderful after all these years) Phytotherathrie PhytoCitrus Deep Conditioner Pack (thick and creamy and wonderful) and Burt`s Bees Avocado. It smells wonderful and it works, but it is my least favorite. I got hooked on Aveda and ARTec so many years ago that they are my old stand-bys.

I like Rene Furterer a lot but it seems that it makes my hair a little sticky sometimes. I am still playing with it and used the hot oil treatments last week during my weekly hot pampering bath. :-) I think my problem was that I did not use a heat cap and/or I did not get it well distributed so that it didn`t condition as well as it should. I have similar problems with the Phyto oil if I don`t take my time. On the other hand, the Aveda Beautifying oil is wonderful and I hardly ever have problems with it getting too sticky.

For leave in conditioners depending on how dry my hair is I like Phyto 7 and Phyto 9 and Aveda Curressence Spray (wonderful stuff). I have never done well with the ARTec leave in Kiwi spray. It tends to dry my hair a little. I also don`t do well with the PhytoBaume although a friend of mine swears by it.

Using a heat cap is a great idea. It really helps for coarse hair.

Thanks again for a great topic.

Best wishes & Happy New year.

Karen

Aaaa!!! So this is what it takes to get Karen out :=D.

Well Karen - I took your advice and tried the ARTec and love them, I use the Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner and also use the Serum to totally kill the frizzies (shorties on top of the head).

I also like Aveda Sap Moss Shampoo, Currensce Conditioner, and two balms, one for attracting humidity and one for repelling it.

I have also discovered two Products not yet reviewed on your site - Quidad Curl Quencher Shampoo and Conditioner. I am not sure how much the Shampoo adds to the equation (it has ammonium lauryel Sulfate), but I have to tell anyone who will listen - TRY THE CONDITIONER, it detangles better than any of the others I have tried and it is also used as a leave-in (very little).

My hair also seems to love Monoi Oil in fairly large quantities, which is weird because it`s still really short (chin to shoulder) - but whatever works...waggy

Hi Waggy,

Gee is my face red. I am so terrible at not posting enough on the boards. :-( I am going to try harder to at least lurk more often. Jeff reads all the boards every day and so does 2 of the HB.com folks but I have a hard time getting here. No excuses though. I need to be better at this.

I am so very glad you like ARTec. When my hair is crazed from my latest experiment on new products I always know that the ARTec Smoothing and Conditioner will get my hair back to where it should be. :-)

I am a big fan of Ouidad and just emailed her husband not too long ago. The only reason that I don`t have a review of the Ouidad Curl Quencher Shampoo & Conditioner on the site is because I don`t currently have a curly haired tester. Sherry used to do all our testing but I have not had a chance to talk to her in awhile.

I am glad to hear you liked the Sap Moss. I hear lots of mixed reactions to that but it is either...total love or total dislike. So I am happy it works for you.

Can you email me at shelton@hairboutique.com. I would love to talk to you more about the Ouidad products.

Thanks for your post & Happy New Year.

Karen
