QuoteReplyTopic: Speaking of grey and the hi lights... Posted: June 08 2003 at 10:56pm
My hair has been grey since my 20's in my other post it was said to go to the salon and get the hip looking silver hilights... my question is this.. .my roots are grey and the rest of my hair is dyed... do I let all the grey show up first or what do I do????
how do I make the change do I have to have six months of nasty hair?
MTTTTT; you may have to work into it....no, For what I was talking about you want to have your natural color.................And there is nothing worse than going back to natural grey, because we can't get you there with color....It just plain has to grow out. May be Highlights in the mean time??
Those silver lights look really cool on short short hair....???
So I should just keep growing and cutting and growing and cutting but no color? What about the worn look in my color now cause of the pool and such, is there any miracle cure?
I don't know of a miracle....I really wish I did...Any color even OTC semi-permanents are going to change your new growth, IMO...That's if you truly decide to grow it out.
Maybe lily or someonelse has a suggestion? I've not found a good way to grow out grey or salt & pepper hair.
How much new growth do you have? How grey is your real color? Do you have a lot of contrast between your colored hair and your base?
I think so my grey is about an inch growing out and I am died dark brown... I guess since I have the summer off I can start cutting the length and keep going since I have short hair but I am 42 and not sure if I want all grey but I want to see so I can decide.

I hate all of the following and lots more : Fundamentalists, racists, sexists, fascists, ageists (people saying seniors = senile , kids = stupid , 18 = immature or a combo of them), and bigots for causes yet to receive their own designation.

First of all, you have a lovely smile and a beautiful baby!
It's nearly impossible to tell what your hair color is like from these photos. I know how it feels to hate your grey, I'm 37 and have quite a bit now, though I cover it.
If I am understanding you correctly, you want to know how to make your hair look better while you are growing out your grey...you want to grow out your grey to see how it looks "all grey" before returning to the salon for a color service?
If that is the case, and if you really want to let the grey out completely, you might consider trying Natural Instincts in one of the lighter browns about once per month, and get very frequent haircuts. I know that's quite often, but Natural Instincts really isn't for grey because it washes out so quickly and doesn't give total grey coverage--it more or less makes it look like you have highlights while it's washing out in between colorings. But it would make your hair look better while you are growing it out. Then eventually, you could stop coloring and just be grey. If after the first time light brown comes out too light, you can try medium natural brown. I was using this on roots only (grey), and it started washing out after the first two weeks. DO NOT use dark brown, because that won't wash out!
Maybe one of the colorists could chime in on whether this idea might work--I am NOT a colorist, I am merely an at-home color enthusiast.
If I were you I would consult a salon expert to discuss your objectives. Maybe talk to the person who cuts your hair, IF he or she is expert in color?
Please let us know what you decide with the hair color.
By the way, I have been a fan of Weight Watcher's for many years, and I am a lifetime member as well. Come visit the diet boards in the "Beauty Talk" section here, it's the third one from the top. I have my before and after pics posted.
