QuoteReplyTopic: Need advice....Question about Loreal color Posted: June 09 2003 at 3:09pm
Does anyone know the difference between Loreal Preference and Loreal Excellence cream and which should I use? I am looking to go blond and I have heard that both of those are good. I already have highlighted hair, but my roots are a dark blond/dishwater blond. Does anyone know which would be a better choice for me?
Thanks! Cat

I talked to a L'Oreal rep over the phone about this very question.
Preference is a gel; Excellence is a creme. The first is supposed to be great and there are a lot of posts on a variety of boards about women using it for years and getting many compliments. Also, the conditioner that comes with it must be something else--everyone wishes the company would sell it separately they love it so much!
Excellence is better if you want grey coverage--they have a 100% grey coverage guarantee. The reason for this is that it is a thick creme and really saturates the hair strands. A lot of women find it easier to work with.
So basically that is what the rep told me. I was curious because I thought the Preference shades were better looking, at least on the box, then the Excellence. BTW, women also rave about how much they love Excellence.
If you don't have much grey, then it's a toss up. Gel or Creme. But if you have quite a bit of grey, then Excellence would be the one of choice.
Hope this made sense.....Sharon

P.S. If you want to ask L'Oreal a question, go to www.l'orealparishaircolorusa.com (I think that's it). There is a place to contact them. You give your email and write your question.
In a day or so (weekdays) you will receive an email with a 1-800 number and a number that will have been assigned to your question. When you call, tell the customer rep the number and your question will appear in front of her. It's a pretty effective way of talking about any matters regarding their hair color products...Sharon
Thanks Sharon! Your post has been very helpful! I will have to give it a try. I have no grey yet (I'm 29), so I think I will give the Preference a try. That's funny you mention that you thought the Preference colors looked better on the box, than the Excellence Cream. Me too! I was thinking the same thing at the store! The only thing I probably need to worry about now is to make sure that I am gentle with the already highlighted portion of my hair. I used to get it done, all over highlights, at a salon, but it is so expensive every 2 months. And, I am not fond of the grow-out, even after a month, so the last month is always dreadful. Those are the reasons why I want to make the switch to home color. I'll have to post again once I do it to let you know if it was a disaster or not. Thanks again!
