im thinking about using redken shades eq on my hair to see if it'll help it look shiner and brighten up the color. my hair right now is dried out and kinda damaged. would it be a good idea to use this color now? will it help my hair look alittle better until i cut the damage off? i don't want to make it worse either. thanks
I have used Shades EQ and it is a gorgeous product. When my hair was slightly dry, the gloss (no color) as well as the colors (I've used browns, o3N and 03NB) really added condition and shine. But I am not sure how it will be on top of hair that is damaged.
Lilibeach is the Redken expert here, I hope she chimes in with an answer for you.

It will not damage it any futher, in fact it will make it less noticeably damaged. In other words, hide the damage. The only thing to remember is that it will not last as long because your hair is porous. The color will slip right out faster.
Good Luck

LiliBeach, What about the Shades Clear? I've heard it's a good treatment to add shine to dyed hair that has lost its sheen over time.
Also, our finances have hit rock bottom. When things brighten up, I will return to a salon, but meanwhile is there a particular Level 3 store brand that you would recommend in a pinch? I LOVE Redken but know they don't sell to the public. However, if I go to Sally's (as someone suggested) I could buy the color and also the 20 vol developer and mix at home. Sounds simple enough and I was told the color would be more truer then the drug store ones.
Please help, we have a big family get together on Saturday and time is running out. Hubby will help with coloring. Many thanks.

Redken is not sold at Sally's for the very reason that they do not "card" thier customers for thier licenses. Redken pro products are intended for the use by pros. They spend alot of money educating the pros about how to use thier pro products correctly.
I have not used it but I have heard that "Jazzing" clear formula sold at Sally's can do the job.
I hope things are looking up soon for you, believe me I have been there myself.

I really think your gonna like the way the Shades fills in the cuticule of the damaged hair. It's like an intence protien treatment fot the hair that will wash out after about 3-4 weeks. Use the Clear Shades if you just want the protien benefit or add a little color. It will really brighten things up. Enjoy!
