Going platinum blonde

hey...i wanna hear other people's feedback. I want to be a platinum blonde, but i hear it's very damaging esp. for brunettes. is there a way to create a very pale blond look without too much damage (a bit is fine with me)? Which look better: highlights or all over color with bleach? I'm brunette and I look good in platinum wig. Plus, I don't plan to grow my hair long and it's like shoulder length and layered right now. it's a dyed light brown with dark blonde ends now (was bleached last year). TIA!

It is possible to go platinum blonde from brunette for longer lengths, but it's going to depend on the skill and patience of your colorist.

First, the stylist has to be careful in initial timing and application. They can't just throw on product all over, and stick you under a dryer. They have to be careful working with your hair, because when the product is on your head, that's when you hair is at its most vulnerable.

They have to know which toner is appropriate.

When it comes time to do a touch up, they have to be able to accurately process only the regrowth and avoid overlap onto the previously processed hair.

I'd say very few stylists are capable of doing this. A license is not a guarantee. IMHO, what you should do is contact one of the local beauty suppliers for Goldwell or Joico (Verocolor) or Schwarztkopf, and see if they can give you the name of a colorist who they use for shows or education.

Then, go for a consultation, to find out what that colorist thinks about your particular situation. It's probably going to be expensive, btw.

Heratic, I'd say the stylist that would only take your wife platinum if she would agree to cut her hair short was putting the cart before the horse. I warn people that it may come to that, but it doesn't always have to. My guess is that he just didn't want to do it.

Well, unless you want to have short hair, don't try it. Longer hair doesnt really hold up that well to such intense bleaching.

The longer your hair is, the longer it will take for the natural oils to coat and protect the hair, so breakage is very possible with heavily bleached hair. I wouldent risk it.

Japonica most conditioners/shampoos and hair oils are substitutes for that, so if you use oils or condition more often it makes little difference.

But if you need all those oils and heavy conditioners, your hair is already damaged :-P . Plus, you can get to a point where no matter how much you condition your hair, it's still straw. I went through that at one time, not because of bleaching, but just from changing the shade too many times. I was using like four conditioners a day for a while, but it still was dry and frizzy, and stayed that way until I cut it. You've gotta be careful what you do with your hair, because once it's fried, oiling and conditioning can make it look less frizzy, but it can't restore the hair back to its original health.

if you plan to do it yourself the best way about it is
use a colour stripper, if it's one with peroxide that leaves you with orange hair then thats less bleaching.
skip the next step if you use a perxoide stripper.
first you'll need to bleach your hair to a peach/orange colour. then condition the hell out of it. i suggest a few days inbetween bleaching. it''s really worth it, bleaching your hair twice in the same day is never a good idea and it'll leave it mulchy and yuck and with bleaching you need your hair to be in as gooder condition as you can get.
after that you bleach your hair to palest yellow(the colour of inside a banana peel) then you buy a platinum toner which should remove the yellow.
idealy you want your hair free of orange tones, if you have any orange bits left you may want to bleach just thoes bits using 20% peroxide with the bleach. but make sure you condition it like hell.
