QuoteReplyTopic: Bad highlighting need help and advice Posted: April 21 2004 at 7:11am
Background: I'm licensed but don't work in the industry. I get my products at professional supply stores. I was keeping my curly hair short for a while and highlighted myself through a cap. I used Redken blonding gels I, to achieve lightest blonding for dark blond hair. With 40 volume developer.
Now my hair is long and I've let all the color grow out because I was going to have TR. Then had some money troubles and decided to forget it. I went to the salon(actually a beauty college run by the local supply store) for a foil as now my hair is too long for a cap.
I told them I used the blonding gels and they don't have them there but I'm easy going. They mentioned Paul Mitchell color which I never used but didn't object to.
The Problem: The paul mitchell color was "Frosting Bleach" I am furious! I have never liked the look of frosting bleach! I am white!!! and it looks more like all over color instead of striped highlights! Plus to make matters worse, she only did the top(well, maybe that's a good thing) and it looks stupic being white on top and dark underneath. Some of the bleach also must have run out of foil because I have a blobby area right at my roots on the top and another spot with a small polka-dot effect on the side.
I have dry, frizzy, curly hair and I know I can't leave my hair in this raw, frosting bleach stage. What can I do?
How can I recover from this? Does PM make a toner for the frosting bleach? Will I need a filler? I'll probably leave some actual highlights in. Should I leave out that hair or tone it all down then use my regular blonding gels?
I don't know if you've gotten an answer to your delima or not, but just an FYI, there's no difference between frosting bleach and regular bleach, it's all bleach. What makes it a frost is the amount of time, or more specifically how light they bring the highlights too. All they really need to do is put a toner on it to tone it all down (or add some color to it). The best thing to do would be to apply a semi-permanent color to it, I don't know how dark your natural color is, but I would go for a toner about a shade darker then what you want the highlights to be, since you're hair was brought up so light is won't take color as dark as if it wasn't that light.
