QuoteReplyTopic: Get Rid of Orange But Not Deepen Posted: May 25 2004 at 10:15am
I posted on another thread that I had to remove color. It worked pretty well with Effasol by L'Oreal. But, I am left with a little more orange/brass than I would care for.
Does anyone know how to counteract the orange without deepening the color? I like the level that my hair is at, so I don't want to add more color to add blue or blue/violet or ash.
Would this be where you use a toner? Or toner just another name for semi-permanent color?
Bought gold/red color corrector and made a bleach batch. Made a few more highlights in front. Turned out pretty good.
Went to Sally's. Bought Color Charm 049 (Dark Drabber). Mixed 1 part color to 2 parts 20 Volume developer. Started with underneath hair and worked my way to top. Left on literally about 5-8 minutes. Swiped through orangey highlights at the very last minute.
Shampood with Fermesi Violights.
Very nice. Took out the orangeness and my highlights look great.
I get a couple of months of great haircolor until the NEXT root coloring, highlight touchup session. PHEW!!!!!!!
Just thought I'd add an update. There was still a bit more darkthan I like (from perm haircolor) in the back of my hair. So, I mixed a little Effasol + 20 vol. developer this time. Combed in and left on for 5 min. Perfect. It's still a little peachy but not too bad. I can live with it. I really like the level.
I think my plan is to wait until my roots grow to about 1/2" and then use L'Oreal Preference Dark Blonde with 20 vol. developer and apply with a bottle to the roots only and leave for about 25 min., then comb through for about 5-10 minutes on the rest of my hair. Will plan on having a friend help me with the back.
My highlights turned out really nice. It worked really well for me to highlight very thin strands about 3/4" apart. I only went as far back as where you would cut bangs...not quite to a headband line. The highlights on top are very delicate looking and are a pale lemon color.
I have been really studying blonde colors on people in public and have noticed that the best, most natural highlights are actually quite yellow...I had always thought they were white basically.
Been noticing a LOT of orangeheads since summer has begun!! Geez, I practically think a person should have to look at pictures of what can go wrong and sign a waiver before they purchase the products at a drugstore. Good grief, the trauma that is caused by not understanding chemistry or the color wheel is awful. I'm just your average consumer and I have now had to make it my business to understand so much.
I love the way my hair looks when it is professionally done...but OH, what a racquet (costs) and I hate feeling so dependent on someone.
