QuoteReplyTopic: Once you go black, can you ever go back? Posted: July 11 2004 at 9:24pm
I've been dying my hair blue-black for 6 years and I was wondering if there was any way to walk away with out bleaching. My hair is already dry as a bone and waist length, so its prone to breakage and frizzies. Does anyone know if i could perhaps get "lighter" streaks to blend the hair as it grows out? Or is it really an all-or-nothing matter? Im tired of looking like me. Thanks in advance.

Maybe a professional stylist could figure a way with lowlights or highlights or whatever they can make work to blend the black and natural hair together? It seems like black would be the hardest to do that with, but it wouldn't hurt to ask, I guess.
Probably. My aunt dyed her hair black for about 10 years, and now she is going back to platinum blonde (I think she was originally brunette). Her hair seems to be as fine as ever, but you need to take really good care of hair hair, epecially if you colour it. I would recommend taking care of the dryness and brittlness and foccusing on getting your hair healthy again before dying it more.
And, I agree with Kuroneko. Also ask a stylist or porfessional for colour and care advice. Good luck!

well it is possible to go from black to lighter. just a few weeks ago i had my dyed black hair bleached three times in a row. which made it orange. then went back for highlights and to have the orange toned out. i had to have some cut off. but not a lot really. my hair is still BSL. and it was probably only an inch or two below that before. its definately blonde now, with some platinumish parts in the front.
i just use lots of good conditioners.
BSL/Blonde/Chemically Treated (abused) 1b/cMii I swear by Redken Extreme and Shea Butter.
OMG!! same thing here. My hair is black- pure black- and i dunno how to get rid of it. I just really dontwant my natural light brown roots to show soooo much... it'll look terrible!! I hope there is someway... and if there is some way, i will def. find it and let u know. ttyl
I love everyone!!! Ya... even U!!! hehe ;)

Have you veen pulling the color through? If so thats why its dry and frizzy and breaking. You do roots only and thats it.
If you only do root touch ups, and continue washing your hair with good conditioning, your hair color will fade a little.
I would suggest Color Fix color remover for removing the color but( damage aside) unless you want a dramatic lightening such as medium or even light blonde I don't think its goin to do much. All you would do is remove to a red and retint a dark brown, it may go right back to black.
Really I think washing with a sodium laureth sulfate shampoo and then conditioner, the color will fade some.
