QuoteReplyTopic: Temp hair lightening? Posted: July 23 2004 at 2:32pm
After 4 years of dyeing my hair, then perming it, i finally have it back to my natural color and it's healthy. Hooray! Unfortunately, i'm up for a role in a play, and she has to be a blonde. The audience is very close up, so a wig is not an option. My hair is dark blonde- almost brown with blonde highlights. Poeple spends hundreds trying to get the highlights i have naturally, so I love my natural color, and i was wondering if there is a way to only temporarily lighten my hair without all the harsh, damaging, chemicals? If it has bleach, ammonia, or peroxide, i don't want to use it. I've heard of temporary dyes, hair mascaras, and "drop-in color". Which would work best? Please help!!
First of all, there is no such thing as temporary lightening. When you lighten hair you have to use peroxide and this is always damaging. I have worked professionally in theater and film for many years and actors in plays are never asked to color their hair for a role. Only in film is this necessary. Even then, wigs are still an option.
No matter how close the audience is, a good wig will be much better than coloring your hair when you are already happy with the color you have. Believe me, You will nothing but regret. It will damage your hair, and after the show you will be left to wonder how to put it back natural. But once colored, hair will never be the same, unless you let it grow out.
So please use my advice and find a good wig. You will save yourself alot of time, money, and regret.
