today I went to my salon, like always, and wanted new color. My stylist told me he had a brand new color just in that he'd like to try on me, free of cost (because he had yet to see the results). so, I said 'what the hell?...it's free hair color!' and let him do it.... I still have yet to decide if I like it...I think it's a bit bright for me :) I may go have it toned down tomorrow :)

If you don't start to like it after a couple of days, you could try having some brown or black streaks or lowlights put into it, or have it turned more auburn. But I'm partial to bright reds, so it's fine as it is, to me.
I think, the last picture looks the best on you. Not so cartoonish bright red. More of a dark auburn, still noticable, but not something that jumps out like the first two pictures. Maybe if you got some chunky highlights of some other color that would look nice.
I think it looks really good. I am not a faint of heart person and believe that you must not be one to carry a color of red or burgandy. Give it a week to see what reactions you get. In todays society the bolder your hair the bolder you are perceived.

The day after I posted this, I washed my hair a couple times, and it toned down quite a bit. Now it's a nice, dark auburn. I liked the color, However, I had an audition the day after I colored it- it was an audition to get into a Madrigal group full of 40-50 somethings. Unfortunately, around here, bold hair can be taken to be slightly freakish :P All's good now, though! :)
I like the auburnish picture. It looks good with your skin tone. I do have a suggestion for the next time you want a color change. Just looking at your picture on the left when you had brown hair, I instantly got a vision of you with a really rich dark brown base color and ash or honey blonde streaks running through it. Just like in this picture
Let me know what you think. I think it would look gorgeous with your eyes, and it suits your cut well too.
I think the red looks nice. By the way, did you get into the madrigal society? I sang in a madrigal society in college -- lots of fun actually. It's a great way to fine-tune your harmonizing skills. There were a number of people in our group with dramatic hair colours (but we weren't 50ish).

wow..I was really surprised to see that someone replied to this :) I kept the color for a few weeks, but went to with a more natural red for me... I'd post pics, but my camera was stolen :(
I did get into the madrigal group, though, and am very much enjoying it :) We give five free concerts in December, and I'm hoping for a chance at featured soloist *crosses fingers* wish me luck! :)
Thanks, guys :)
