QuoteReplyTopic: stupid at home hair coloring Posted: July 28 2004 at 10:55pm
Hey, I have a huge dilemma. I, being the idiot that I am, decided to dye my hair because my highlights were growing out and I didn't feel like getting them done anymore. I used Clairol Nice n Easy in 114 C, "Natural Light Chestnut Brown." I was anticipating reddish highlights in light brown hair, what I got was a head full of medium reddish hair. I hate it. Is anyone here knowledgable enough when it comes to hair coloring or maybe a professional who can give me advice on what to do? Can I possibly dye it with an ash brown shade? I'm freaking out and I don't know if I can afford to go to the salon because I'm in school and I don't exactly have any money to spend on a professional to fix my incredibly stupid mistake. Please, help. Thanks.
Now that your hair is medium red, light brown isn't an option, unless you strip the color out of your hair and start all anew. I don't recommend this though, because bleaching at home is risky and VERY damaging!
The best thing to do would be to go to a darker shade. Whether it be a dark reddish brown or brown with no red is up to you. Seeming that you already have red in your hair, I would try a rich, darker golden brown color. The red will show through a little.
Ash brown would try to dismiss the red tones in your hair, but it would probably end up looking a ratty grayish color. And even then, it wouldn't be able to totally get all the red out. You would just be stuck with multi-toned mousy colored hair.
So get something rich and dark. Get a level 2. Don't use permanent. It will dry it out too much.
