Red fades really quickly if you don't use the right products so, if you use the right products, you can fade it a bit. Prell shampoo does really well in stripping your color out; when my red hair is too intense, i Prell it a couple of times until i reach the right shade. Most dandruff shampoos will do the same thing, too. Just make sure to condition really well because it will strip it of all your moisture, too.

i recently read that a protein-enriched Deep Conditioning treatment like Cholestral applied and then used with a heating cap for 1/2 and hour or so will slowly lift some of the color.

And definitely there's a warning there about using intense reds on bleached hair. Intense reds are meant to give a strong red result on dark hair, so if you put it on bleached, grey, or naturally light-blonde hair, you run the risk of looking like Ariel the mermaid. If that's what you're going for, great. Otherwise, be forewarned and careful.
