Hello! I have naturally dark brown hair that I have professionally colored a medium auburn/red shade (level 6) every 4 weeks for a root touch-up. For the last 10 minutes or so of processing, my colorist combs the dye through to the ends to refresh the color, but after one washing, my hair is markedly lighter! It is literally 2 shades lighter in one washing! The entire color is altered. Instead of a rich medium auburn, I now have a golden medium brown. The red is almost completely gone. I don't understand why this is happening. I know that reds fade very easily, but, after only one washing to be so faded?? That doesn't seem right to me. When I called my colorist to complain about this, she seemed rather nonchalant and simply said "come in and we'll see what we can do". I was just at the salon for color less than a week ago, why should I have to go back already? Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks!

Does anyone have any advice?? I would really appreciate any input you may have.... I'm so upset that my color is ruined (faded) in such a short time frame. BTW, I though that a color-depositing shampoo might be the answer, but my hair doesn't respond well to them for some reason. They dry out my hair and produce an uneven color effect.

Thanks again.

This is kind of strange. It's a well known fact that Red fades the fastest, but from what you're saying it sounds as if your hair is just not holding the color. I'm surprised that the color shampoo isn't working.

What else has been going on with your hair? Have you had any other chemical processes done to it - perming, relaxing, anything like that? The reason I ask is, perhaps your hair is damaged from something and is just not able to hold the color? It doesn't seem likely, but without knowing what else has been done to your hair, I can only surmise that damaged hair is the reason.

been there with the red thing... LOL

reds never seem to hold in my hair. hHve you tried adding a red filler to your dyes? Is that what you meant when you said red deposits.

I did however have one time when My hair was colored red....LOL... and I could fade or get rifd of it even when I tried. i'll have to see if i can rememebr the name of the brand for you. It was gosh aweful because I WANTED to change it and even brown on top couldn't get rid of the red. I eneded up having top bleach it out.

Go figure... if I had wanted it to stay it probably would have washed right out

Thanks for your responses. To KB: My hair doesn't have any other chemical processes such as perming, chemical straightening, etc. The condition of my hair is not too bad either. Maybe I need to go to a different colorist.... To Sher: I'm not sure if my colorist used a red filler in her color formulation. She recommended using a color-depositing shampoo, and like I said, the color grabs in certain areas, producing an uneven color effect. It did more harm than good.

Oh shoot... I was in the store last night and forgot to get the color name for you

If you go to Sally's Beauty Supply or someplace like it you can get filler yourself. if you are worried about blotchiness you can get it in a NEUTRAL or clear color. You then can add it to your regular color.
