Hi, to everyone! Man! I have been browsing these boards for about an hour now and I am amazed at all the hair color horror stories I've read. I guess I'm lucky, Iv'e been coloring my hair at home for almost 20 years now and have never had any problems other than fading. I am 38 years old and started getting grey hair when I was 15. Early on, I did it infrequently, when I got tired of seeing those few grey hairs. Then as I got greyer, I did it more regularly. My natural color is a dark brown. A few times I used a semi perm. red color to get nice auburn, and for a couple years in the mid 90's I actually went blonde. After that, I went back to using a semi-perm. color in my natural shade of dark brown. And that is all I have used for at least 5 years now.
Here is my problem; In order to keep my hair this color, I need to be coloring it every 2 weeks. After that, my roots are very noticeable. At this point, I am probably 97% grey. Every 2 weeks is just waaay too much upkeep for me, so I am looking for a better solution. My idea is to go blonde again, because I figure my roots will be less noticeable when they start to grow out. However, I do not want to bleach my hair. It's just too damageing to my hair. So, I thought if I could somehow remove the semi-perm. color that is in my hair now, it should easily go from grey to blonde with another semi-perm color in a blonde shade. Anyways, with that all said, I have been looking on the internet for color removers. I found one called The Uncolor System Haircolor Remover by Clairol. This is for semi-perm. color. Has anyone ever used this? Would it take the brown hair dye completely out of my hair? There are others too, for permanent color, and different brands. If anyone has any expeirience with any products like these, I would appreciate knowing how they worked for you.
Thanks, Lynn

I don't have the answer to your question, but the "Going Blonde" message board is the place to look for advice.

There are a number of really helpful people there who seem to know everything there is to know about going blonde. (Ask for help from ANDYA, TOYOTA or RICK (THE CHEMIST) in the subject line). They just gave me all the help I needed to go blonde without bleaching.
My user name is WAY too long. Just call me Juliana. :-)
