i've been all different colours in the rainbow, and 2 month's ago decided to go black. Well, today i guess i was restless and tried to go back to my natural chestnut brown via bleeching and the re casting. My roots look like pumpkins and the rest is still pretty well black. Any advice would be welcome ladies.

i may be too late to help you but if not... you need to leave the bleach on the ends of your hair longer where it is more orange, and not anymore on the roots. bleach lightens hair in steps one level at a time... since your natural hair color is lighter than the black (which will be more difficult to bleach out) it will get lighter faster, leaving your ends a different color.

It's tough to get rid of black dye through bleaching without pulling a lot of orange. You could try an application of ColorFix; it might be easier than trying to even out the colour you have right now. It's gentler than bleach too. You may not need to rebleach after the ColorFix -- You might just be able to go straight to colour -- a gentle demi-permanent would probably be best.
If you do need to re-bleach after the ColorFix -- avoid your roots -- and aim for an all-over bleach level similar to the level of your roots. Good luck.
Always strand test before putting anything all over your head, though. :-)

If your hair's still in good condition after the bleach, do a second one but dont apply it on the roots (where its orange) then put a plastic bag on your hair to give them more heat. If necessary, put a hot towel on your head for 5-10 minutes. Be sure to use a peroxide 30 vol or more.

I think you should use a blue-based toner to combat the orange. [Some people may recommend an ash tone for orange hair -- but I think it's a bad idea. Ash tones are usually green-based. I've seen hair that is orange with a greenish cast (a strange and unflattering look) after using an ash toner.] Blue is the complimentary colour of orange -- they balance each other out.

orange - blue yellow - violet red - green
