Help needed with fixing my color... Clairol Dye disaster = 3 colors in 2 days

First of all, my natural hair color is dark brown. Over the summer, I gradually lightened it to a medium yellowy-golden blonde. It was really pretty. Well for Halloween, I decided to be Paris Hilton. Being the not-so-intelligent girl I am, I let myself be persuaded into dying my hair a lighter blonde to match Paris's. So I bought Natural Instincts Medium Champagne Blonde. On the box, this looks like a white blonde. My hair turned out light brown with the most hideous orange sheen to it. I don't know how to describe it other than sheen. (my friends called it "the golden poo") So I decided to research a little before I fixed it and went out and bought Clairol's Born Blonde Original. My hair has turned into a hideous color. The roots are insanely yellowey-white while the rest of my hair is orange or rusty color with the yellow/white streaks in it. It looks okay straight, but I wear my hair naturally curly most of the time. I'd like to fix this color so badly. I don't think I could afford to get it professionally fixed unless someone knows of a place around Durham, NC or Greensboro, NC that doesn't charge a fortune for dye jobs. But its really embarassing walking around school with this color. I look like a hi-liter. I would like to dye my hair to a dark blonde or light brown, with either some golden or white blonde highlights. But I really don't want to have another coloring incident like this. How should I go about dying over the bleach and does anyone have any suggestions on brand and color of dye to cover this?

Try to find a blue shampoo in pharmacy. The blue will cut down the yellow color in your hair. You use it like a everyday shampoo but you'll need to leave it in your hair for 3-4 minutes before it worked. If it doesn't work, then see a specialist.

Blue toner is an excellent suggestion. It should do the trick.

I can relate to you completely -- I used Natural Instincts Medium Champagne Blonde on pale yellow bleached hair and got a glowing apricot colour. Hideous. I went through a number of different hair colours trying to fix it.

I finally have the hair colour I want, but it was a long, unpleasant ordeal.

P.S. This is by no means a suggestion -- I think a pro is your best bet, but this is how I got the colour I wanted. I dyed my apricot hair with Nice 'N Easy Light Ash Brown (fortunately, my hair was still quite healthy). I lived with that for a while. Within about 3 weeks it faded to a nice light golden brown. Then, a couple of days ago I highlighted about 85% of my hair with L'Oreal Creme Lights (gentle enough for colour-treated hair). My hair is now a dimensional honey blonde -- strands ranging from a level 7 to level 9 with the light golden brown as lowlights.
