Is your hair dyed dark brown, or is your hair totally untreated right now? If your hair is all natural, take a look at L'Oreal's hi-lift browns (Feria). I haven't used this product, but I've heard good things about it. It's supposed to be able to lift brown hair about 3 levels without revealing a lot of warmth.

Check out www.lorealparis.com. They also have a toll-free consumer question line. Someone there should be able to give you some guidance.

If your hair is dyed dark brown, you will have to remove the colour (with a hair colour remover like Color Fix) before dying it light brown.

When hair is lightened it reveals the underlying pigment. The levels of lightening reveal red, then orange, yellow, pale yellow, white. I assume that Feria Hi-Lift Browns contain an ash tone to balance the orange that would be revealed when you lighten dark hair 3 levels. Everyone's hair is different, though. Do a test strand first to make sure you get the colour you want. I know it's a pain -- but it's worth it. Better safe than sorry. If your test strand looks red, post another message and we'll take it from there.

Good luck.

No problem. One more thing. I think Feria Coolest Brown would be the best one for you to try -- the cooler the colour, the less red or orange.
