Yes, I've tried to make my hair BLUE. as in dark INDIGO. I've used L'oreal Superior Preference and it faded out. I've used Garnier Nutrisse over it and it turned black.
Grr, this is whyI hate having asian hair, but how would I get dark blue (as in navy but a shade lighter) hair?? What products would you recommend? Pls include exact name of products.
Would I have to bleach it and then dye it blue? But yea, my hair is blackish now X_X
I hope this isn't a repost.

Most of the bright blue colours I know of are temporary. Someone else may have an easier method for you. If so, I would go with their method; mine works and lasts, but it requires a lot of products, measurement, experimentation and, most of all, patience.
I don't have a lot of experience with blue hair, but here is my method. I used this method on my niece's hair. Her starting colour was dark blonde, so we didn't need ColorFix; we just bleached to pale yellow. These instructions are based on the assumption that you have access to a Sally's. All the supplies are available at Sally's. (I don't live near a Sally's so I order all of my supplies from various on-line sources.)
First, you'll need to remove the colour you've got now with Igora Modulat or ColorFix. You may be able to lighten your hair with bleach only, but it will require numerous applications of bleach. ColorFix is much less damaging. The ColorFix will leave your hair a funky orange colour. At this point, use the re-developer included in the box. It will develop any remaining hair colour. If any colour reappears, use ColorFix again. Then, you'll need to bleach your hair to pale yellow. Try Clairol 7th Stage bleach with 3 activator packets and 30 vol. developer. It's tempting to use 40v., but the lightening action comes from the bleach; 40v. developer will just cause more damage to your hair.
After your hair is bleached to pale yellow you can get a nice permanent indigo blue with Clairol Complements Colour Intensifiers. Buy a tube of blue and a tube of violet (to counteract the yellow of the bleached hair). You'll have to do a little bit of experimentation to get exactly the shade of indigo you want. Start by mixing 3 parts blue to 1 part violet. Mix a colour that is a bit more violet than what you want your hair to be. You have to take into account that you are putting this colour on pale yellow hair. (Make sure you keep notes on how you've mixed each colour so you'll be able to duplicate a larger volume of the successful formula.) Test the colours you've mixed on 1/2" wide strands of your hair. Make sure you get the colour you want before you apply the colour to your entire hair.
P.S. If you want your hair a bit darker than what I think of as indigo, buy a tube of Complements in black too. Add a bit of this to your colour mixture.

Actually, Colorfix only removes dyed-in color, not natural color. So you may want to remove the dye you put in, but if you think it faded away on its own, that shouldn't be necessary.
For blue to really show, your hair will need to be bleached lighter than the color you intend to end up with. The lighter it is, the better the blue will show up.
This will be hard on your hair, so don't plan on growing it long.
Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?
I have natural black hair and i used the garnier 100% color of blue black and it turned out dark blue. its looks really nice and its not only noticable in the light, its noticable under regular lighting too.
but i agree with the other post, if u have the dyed black in it, then u gotta get rid of that first. if on natural black hair, it should show up, i dont see why you need to resort to stripping ur haircolor....unless u want bright blue.
oh and there is this thing called color shots available in toronto, it has bright colors like brigght blue and you dont need to strip your hair for that one either.

Well, my hair is naturally brownish black. So I dyed it with the L'oreal superior preference in dark blue, and it barely showed up but faded after about 2-3 days leaving me with a bit of a blackish color. It was also supposed to be permanent. So, I tried the Garnier Nutrisse in blueberry and now it looks black, and I don't see any blue. I'll check out the colorshots and the garnier 100%. Do you think that the garnier 100% will be better than the garnier Nutrisse?
And p.s. thanks for your suggestions everyone.
Yes, I want it to be permanent, so you think I might have to bleach it before dying over the blue to make it deep indigo to appear? Or do I just have to strip the current "black blue" dyes already in my hair with colorfix/igora modulator and then start dying it ?
I hope I'm not wrecking my hair with all these hairdyes I'm experimenting with. ><
If ur dying it over again and again, then yes u probabaly will wreck it. Id say, try the ones i suggested and if they dont work then a) give up b) go to a salon, where they will bleach ur hair and color over (not good for ur hair either).
I am very confident that the 100% color will work and if u wanted brighter then the color shots r awesome. Just get the blue black dye that is currently in ur hair, out. try using an anti dandruff shampoo or a clarifying shampoo, that should help get the color out.
remember to post a picture of ur blue hair cuz im sure it'll work!
It really sounds like you're looking for a color which can't really be achieved using box dyes. Take a look at this page at http://amphigory.com/special_effects_hairdye.html If you click the name of the color, they have photos of actual people with that color on their hair.
If that kind of blue is what you are looking for, you need to strip out the dyes (Igora Modulat, ColorFix) and then lighten (bleach) your hair. If you want a really dark blue, only lighten a little. If you want a bright, vibrant blue, lighten more. If your hair is already feeling pretty dry and damaged, you might want to consider having a pro lighten it for you and possibly going for chunky highlights rather than all-over color.
