Hey everyone!
I've had a horrible horrible dye job two weeks ago! Went to a cheaper salon, asked for a medium brown which turned out black, and silly me asked for highlights (wanted very subtle dark blonde) which turned out platinum - no GREY. BIG contrast. While salt and pepper hair can look marvelous on some women, it's definitely not for everyone! People wondered that day if really meant for it to look this way and nodded pitily when i said 'no.'
To make the story short, i went back for a color correction which didn't achieve anything, just damaged it more after a colour strip (lightened up the black to a ashy brown, but highlights remained grey.) I went to another expensive place and they used a toner (probably a warm orange undertone to balance out the blue undertone from before) which now looks honey/caramel blonde. And the highlights look honeyish-goldish. Bee-u-ti-ful! Love it more than ever before.
Moral to the story: Save up and really go to expensive professionals who know what they are doing. Turns out the cheap place used cheap bleach and dye and didn't monitor the timing for the dye properly.
Ok wake up! cuz here comes the main point to this thread....or question i should say...
I've decided, after talking to a couple of persuasive co-workers, to try a colour shampoo that deposits colour that last about 4-6 weeks or so. Contain no ammonia, no peroxide, no smells, no permanency. Expensive true but at least if you use just a little every 4-6 weeks, bottle can last for months. No need to visit salons (hopefully).
Has anyone tried this? Are they any good, do they achieve the colour they say they would? I am aware u cannot go from a light brown to a platinum pamela anderson blonde. And which line is good for BLONDES?:
A few I heard of:
Sebastian Colourshine Cellophane Aveda Nourish Jason John Frieda Sheer Blonde/Brunette (will this do anything?)
Thanks for any help!

I have never heard of a colour-depositing shampoo that lasts for 4-6 weeks (you would need a demi-permanent dye for that kind of staying power). Most colour-depositing shampoos need to be used every day until the desired effect is achieved and then once a week or so after that. They also won't drastically change your hair colour. They're basically used to enhance brunette colours or prevent brassiness in bleached or highlighted hair.
My hair is heavily highlighted. I use Silver Brights blue/violet color-deposit shampoo and conditioner to maintain my colour and keep it from looking brassy. It's really cheap ($4.49 total) and is available in drugstores. Artec colour-deposit shampoos and Clairol Shimmer Lights are good too (you'll need a violet or blue/violet shade for blonde hair).
The John Frieda shampoos don't actually deposit colour. The Sheer Blonde one contains sunflower oil (for extra shine) and chamomile (which will very subtly lighten hair with repeated use). I like this shampoo as an everyday shampoo, though. It's very gentle and moisturizing. The only John Frieda product that actually deposits colour is Blonde Ambition Mousse. It is tinted lavender. It helps to tone down brassiness.
P.S. I think Cellophane is a demi-permanent dye, not a shampoo.

But also, why do you want to use a color depositing shampoo? I thought you said you were blonde now and you liked it? If you're happy with your blonde, blonde isn't going to fade like darker colors do, so there is really no need for a color depositing shampoo unless you want to change the tone (like tone down brassiness and such).

I've written much more detailed version of the visits to the salons which i deleted, thinking it was irrelevant but now i see it might be helpful.
After the colour strip my hair was was very brassy and the colours from previous dyes showed up. Hair was spotty, too. The colourist added a toner, and probably left it on for a little too long since she was busy with 2 other clients, hair turned out blue toned and very ashy (highlights remained pale/white.) So now the base color wasn't black but ashy medium to light brown, with white highlights. Funny looking.
I went to a diff salon that I trusted for my previous dye jobs and they added a toner (no peroxide, no ammonia) that gave my hair warm tones and honey/caramel colour. Turned highlights to gold. (this salon uses sulfur in formulas that are usually stripped from hair when using peroxide dyes) Made my hair healthier than it was even before I dyed it at the cheaper salon.
Point is: colour stripped hair with toner, no peroxide.
My question to you would be: would the toner fade eventually and go back to the colour stripped and white highlighted state? And if so, instead of adding cool tones, would adding warm tones achieve the same toner effect I got from the last visit. (my hair at the moment is not brassy) And this is where my idea of playing around with colour shampoos come in. Of course not using it right away, maybe waiting a few months after colour fades.
I guess I'm thinking about switching to colour depositing shampoos/demi-permanent dyes for a while to see if it's worth the time and money instead of going to a salon.
I honestly have no clue about how long colour depositing shampoos last, I've heard about it (4-6 week) from others. Seems demi-permanent cellophane is better? Have you used it and did you like the results?
If it wasn't for the last minute, nothing would get done.

Since so much has been done to your hair, the toner you have right now might not fade very much. Over-processed hair gets really porous and tends to grab onto the colour and not let go. If I were you, I'd just wait and see. I doubt it will fade to white. Those white highlights would be the most porous part of your hair. They'll probably hold the colour better than the rest of your hair. Your hair may start to get a bit brassy over time, but purple shampoo (like el-cheapo Silver Brights) will take care of that.
P.S. Just in case your colour does fade eventually, you would want a warm colour for your highlights. Born Blonde Happy Honey is a nice colour. You apply it once (with a packet of crystals). Then refresh it when needed (without the crystals). Another option to keep your tone fresh is to use something like Igora Color Toner mousse every 2 weeks or so. Don't worry about all this stuff yet, though. You may not need to do any of this stuff because your colour probably won't fade much.
