irisheyes, I think you mentioned that you hadn't bleached or dyed your hair since 2001. If that is true, whatever problems you're having with your hair right now are not due to bleach or dye.
If you want to make your hair look smoother, you can use an anti-frizz serum.

Most mousses give your hair more body. I don't think that's what you're going for. I'm talking about something like John Frieda Frizz-Ease Anti-Frizz Serum, Redken Glass, or Got2b So Smooth Smoothing Serum. There are a lot of different brands to choose from. I think Citre Shine makes a really inexpensive one. They usually come in a small, clear bottle. You just put a few drops (it's a thick, clear liquid) in your hand and work it through your dry hair. They don't actually make damaged hair healthier, they just temporarily smooth the cuticle and make your hair look better.
P.S. Most of these brands also offer a shine spray. It will say "Shine Spray" or "Glossing Mist" or something like that on the label. You just spritz some of it onto your dry hair and it adds some moisture and shine. If you have trouble finding one of these products, just ask for help at your local drugstore (or wherever you buy your hair-care products). The people who work there will probably be able to recommend something to you. Just ask for an "Anti-Frizz Serum" or a "Shine Spray".
