QuoteReplyTopic: hair help needed ASAP Posted: December 30 2004 at 6:44pm
hi everyone. i really need some HELP! i am naturally a lt reddish brown, usually dye it at home to a med reddish brown. idecided to try blonde, and thought it would be best left to the pros. after assessing the condition of my hair, they said it was very healthy and would not be a problem to go med cool blonde. anyway, they bleached it first and then put a toner on it . it was very ashy , more than just cool, it looked almost grey, but they said it would lighten with a few washings. they washed it like four times there, and it did fade a little, so i wasn't thrilled, but i could get used to it. But two days later, the texture of my hair has changed terribly. it feels sticky and gummy, and it just breaks off if i try to comb it. i've put a detangler on it, but it still is hard to get the comb through it. i would just cut the damage off, but it goes so high, i think i would be left with an inch or two of hair. there is no wayi can do that but i have no idea what to do now. i have been crying all day, please somebody help me!
Your hair was not bleached that much or that light, this really should not be a problem. What shampoo and conditioner do you use?
Have you ever tried pantene? When I used to bleach my hair white I used it. It really made my quite fried hair feel very soft. I couldn't grow it longer really, I had to keep getting trims to keep it the same length, but I never had to go shorter.
Some people's hair doesn't like pantene that much, I've heard that especially from people with naturally curly hair (they say it makes them frizzy). If your hair is naturally straight, it should be no problem.
You might also want to consider using jojoba oil to moisturize your hair.

Some people just have fragile hair. When you colored it at home, were you using permanent color? Permanent color will lighten your hair in order to make the dyes take, as well as to allow you to go to a lighter hair color. If you use permanent dye and redye the hair when the roots start to show instead of touching up only the roots, you will damage your hair just like bleaching. I did this when I first started coloring. My hair is still nice and shiny, but you can see where the breakage occurred.
Even the amount of bleaching necessary to take your hair from medium brown to blond (plus to remove any red) might have been too much for your hair.
Sometimes the first sign of damage to the hair is a disaster triggered by what ought to have worked out ok.
Live and learn.
Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

thank you for your responses. it helps to know that it wasn't my fault, because when i first called the girl up she said that i must have had damaged hair. i said that they told me my hair was in great condition, and besides, if it was so bad, how could they bleach it, knowing it would ruin my hair? it cost me 145$ and they sent me home with some aveda confixor. today when i woke up there was all this broken hair on my pillow, my husband says serves me right for worrying so much about what my hair looks like. but its not often that i treat myself to a professional job. i usually spend 7-8 dollars on a home job. i will try the y serum but i worry i may be past that point. even if my hair were to magically transform to healthy condition, i've lost so much that i think it needs to be cut. does anyone have any pictures of some cute short hairstyles that would flatter. i might just have to buy a wig. thanks for the help everyone

P.S. pantene is what i usually use, the one for color treated hair. it has always made my hair feel great. as for my applications, i am very careful to only apply the new color to my roots and just pull it through to the ends in the last 5 minutes to refresh the tone.( i find the red tones usually fade by the 3rd week) I have never had a problem like this before.
Kris : my hairstylist friend has said( she wasn't the one to do it to me) that i would be best to put a lt golden brown semipermanent over it, because it will take care of the tone, and require less maintenance. she says bleaching my roots in 4 weeks could cause the rest to break off completely. what do you think?

well when u bleech your roots thats what u would do no that is not what would make ure hair fall out what will make the hair fall out is bleech over bleech.. that means the hair that has bleech on it cant ever have bleech on it again.. If I was your stylist i would of never done this to u... I have people that comr in all the time and ask for stupid stuff like that.. But that stuff take years to achive.. I would have done a full highlight. and 6 weeks later done another one.. and another and another. u get my point.. 145 for some bleech blond hair not worth it.. hair needs demention or it looks like u did it at home in a box.. and u had color on your hair before, did u tell her that. Did she strip the hair first with any kind of color remover.. U no when u color your hair bleech has to work so much longer to eat all that color out of the cuticle. I would of never done that... ive started a manuel that im putting in the market the manuel is on picken a hair stylist.. thats what this world needs.. ithink i need to email u a copy.. U need to read it.
