QuoteReplyTopic: Want to try a single process bleach blonde...scared :0 Posted: January 05 2005 at 4:01am
Hello everyone. I'm looking for encouragement or discouragement. I'm a dark blonde who is a double process light blonde, but wants to try a full out bleach to get a bold "Paris Hilton" blonde effect. I don't want Gwen Stefani blonde...though I love her music, but I want more of a yellow blonde.. but that isn't so time consuming...I've the hang of it, but I'm thinking I might be wasting time. I lighten my base to the lightest color I can without looking to brassy and then I heavily highlight my hair so that I get that great pale color. When it grows out it looks pretty natural, and with full bleach I'm afraid that it will look really scary growing out. I wear my hair back often, but on weekends I like to wear it down and flat ironed. My hair is in pretty good shape, use repair conditioner and I have pretty good genes. I really love Paris's color and I'm trying to find out if she is a double process or single. Here is a url where you can see my picture and my different shades of blonde. I want to get rid of the warm tones , but I don't know if I can. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. http://www.onemodelplace.com/model_list.cfm?ID=1990
I used to just dye my hair that color with high lift (level 10) platinum blonde dye with a violet base to counter the yellow. I used 40 volume developer, but you could probably use 30 volume and get less damage. You will get hair that looks like Paris' hair in the Simple Life tv show. I just looked up the Stefani lady and her hair is only slightly whiter than Paris' hair, so what you might want to do is a test strand first to see how long you have to leave the dye on to get exactly the shade you want without going too light - because it would be very difficult, maybe impossible - to get that shade if you overdo it and go completely white.

Thank you for your reply. What about over the counter products? For instance I was thinking either Clairol's Born Blonde or Feria's Blonding... or even using the Clairol Highligting Formula and using it as a dye... I like the results of the highlights I get, and it seems to be pretty gentle. I'm not a colorist, I do my own hair color, simply because I've gone to salons and they make me too warm, just because I have brown eyes..but I wear hazel contacts and I can be a warm or a cool color...I prefer cool blonde. I'm not familiar with voume #'s but I've heard them often used at salons or hairshows I've done. Thanks for your advice..if you have a reply to this reply, please go ahead and leave it... Thank you very kindly. Christa
I am not familiar with the products you mentioned. I use beauty supply shops and buy dye and developer because it has the base color written on the dye, and you don't get that with boxed colors. (The violet base is important for countering yellow, and you wouldn't know what base is in what you buy in a box, so you may get unpredictable results). If you buy dye at a beauty supply shop, you have to mix it with developer according to the instructions on the dye bottle. 10 or 20 volume developer is used for going darker, and 30 or 40 volume developer is used for going lighter (the higher the number the quicker your hair goes lighter, but higher numbers have more peroxide so they damage hair more). Perhaps someone else has used the products you mentioned and can tell you what result you will likely get. Good luck going platinum! (I loved my hair platinum! Kept it that way for 6 years)

Thanks for writing Susan. I called Loreal to get their opinon and they suggested I stick with what I'm doing... if its not broke don't fix it. I guess I'm going to stick with the double process. Rather have hair then be bald.. LOL.. Thank you for your replies. Sincerely, Christa
