Okay, So I went cheap and got a semi perm color Natural instincts Blackberry, and suprise, it didn turn out like it did on the box *sigh* its more berry than black. Its really too red at the roots. I'm posting before and after pictures. I'm naturally an ash blonde color, but I had color on top of that before doing this (probably the problem). I've heard alot about Colorfix, but could use some expert encouragment or anything. Just something to get this fake red out or tone it down and go lighter color. Thanks! BEFORE:
After: I like it when the lights not hiting it and its pretty dark but when light hits it it looks really fake red. too 'Berry'
So you want what color black? If you dye it again with a black that has a blue base, that should counter the red, but it will give you a very black black with a purple sheen when the light hits it (will be more the gothy black). If you want a more natural looking black, go for a super dark brown with a green base (to counter the red) and it will most likely come out black (but should be a more natural looking super-dark brown black when the light hits it).
If you colorfix, you'll get an orange or yellow color, then have to color again anyway, so that would be even more damage than just coloring it one more time. Depends if you still want black, or if you want to go back light now. If you want to go back light, it will have to be colorfix.

well, i was wanting to go lighter...I think. I had black hair before when it was short and I remember how big of a pain it was to get it out...I'm hoping this will be easier. You think I could get it back ashy blonde? Or should I go for a more brown color? I really dont know what to do. I'm the cool skin tone, so I just want something that will look decent with it.
Gosh, am I the only one who doesn't think the after is too bad? I say wash it, let it fade, see what happens. If you don't like it, then see a colorist. Red is a tricky color to remove.
too bad, already colorfixed it...here's where its at now, i just washed it, no make up so mind the ugliness lol...but I think i'll give my head two days to re-coup before I color it at all. What color is still to be debated...
so I went nutmeg brown, it turned out to be really dark brown since my hair was so pours, so its back dark, just not with the black cherry undertones in light ;)
