HI having read alot of the posts I would be grateful of any advice on getting my hair to a more natural blonde colour. I tried a strand test with clairol born blonde lightner and it came out yellow like a banana after 90 min although i didn't use the bag for heat as just a strand test.

My hair is naturally dark brown although i have had it highlited to blonde over the years it's mostly blonde although I do have low lites in it now on the top half light/white blonde and then light brown colour in stripe effect. I stand tested the brown only half way down then at the roots for the remaining time and it cam out yellow. But my problem is the rest of the hair that is already light what do i do?. I was thinking of bleaching the root area and the brown bits but then they bits will be yellow and it will be uneven i just want a more natural blonde colour like light blonde the clairol born blonde states a toner afterwards but i'm scared as i will have yellow bits but also my other light bits what do you suggest any advice would really help.thanks

marydoll, the toner will correct the yellow banana tones.. and should only be left on for a couple of min. at shampoo bowl. Clairol stops working after about 40 min.
Do your roots and the dark streaks with your color, and then tone everything...
try to avoid bleaching... born blonde is pretty harsh too, but w/born blonde in my experience I've always had to use a toner.
It is what it is...

hi thanks for that information although I am a bit confused. Do i use the born blonde lightner :

1-on the dark areas first?
2-the root area next?
3-do i leave the previously coloured hair that is blonde although it's not yellow?
4-then tone the rest of my hair?

will this not make it all different colours as the born blonde will make all the darker areas yellow and I will still have my previously highlited hair which is light blonde. Also can I use the toner on all my hair?

Can you suggest any other toners to use as i don't like the warm beige colour that we have in scotland?
thanks again i appreciate any advice

I n regards to your reply can I put the born blonde lightner on my previously coloured hair that is already light after i do the dark areas and the roots as i will need to do the whole of the root area. Also can i use the toner on all of my hair at once?

Also about the clairol only working for 40 min i called the clairol advisory line and they said it can be kept on for up to 90 min and works, also if you have any recommendations on toners to use with born blonde lightner as i don't really like any of the colours they have in toners. Thanks
