    Posted: January 21 2005 at 10:11pm
In the past I have always used Redken's Shades EQ on my hair and want to use it again if it will achieve what I'm looking for.

I have dark brown hair, similar to the shade of Alyssa Milano's hair (only duller, haha). I am wanting to lighten it to a light brown, maybe between a level 6 and 7. Can this be done using Shades EQ alone without resulting in any brassiness? I tried 6NW, brandy, but I couldn't tell any difference. I'm afraid to go any lighter for fear that it will be brassy.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Mikapoo...Shades is a demi-permanent color and will not lift. It deposts only.

Shades Above ...if they still make it...lifts about two levels.

No matter what you use, you can only lift 2 shades without getting brassy. Shades EQ will not work, but you can try the permanant Redken Colorgels and see how they work out for you.

also, you may want to wait until the demi comes out a bit, color over color darkens.

Good point InnamorataItaliana...color doesn't lift color.
