I bought colorfix and did a strand test with it. I thought that it would lift all of the semi and demi permanent color, to the light blonde it was before I colored it dark. (It was bleach blonde.) but instead it left it a light bright orange. I was thinking that I would pull it through a cap, and apply the colorfix to lift the color as much as it will come out. Then bleach it to achieve the light blonde color I want. Wouldn't this be easier on my hair than bleaching twice?

Yes most probably; well, think of it as the lesser of two evils

If you colorix once, and get orange, then colorfix it again, you will probably lift it to yellow, and from there it would be easier to go blonde by putting the violet based shade of your choice. Even if 2 colorfixes leave it orange, you then just need to use a blonde with a green base to counter it.
2 colorfixes just might get you to yellow though and that would be better than bleaching even once after all you've already done to it.
Try doing your test strand again to see if it comes out yellow or still orange.

Hi Amy! I was interested to hear how your color turned out after you applied dye to you hair (post Color-Fix).

BTW, I really liked the brown shade you had in your previous post. It's a very dimensional, rich brown. Just curious, what did you use to get it that tone?

Thanks.

Thanks. Well in the strand test I did, it came out dark orange and then I did it again and it came out light orange and then I did it one more time and it didn't get any lighter.

I was thinking I would pull it through a cap and do the colorfix and then wash it out and go over with the bleach. But would the water run through the holes and get product on the hair underneath??>

As far as the brown I have right now, I used color charm demi permanent golden brown and mixed it with mahogany.

Amy, you've done so much to your hair I'm afraid to tell you to do do anything and have your hair break off to a pixie cut. I guess if it were me at this point, and I had my heart set on going back to blonde, I'd still colorfix it as light as I could...and if that wound up being light orange, using a green or blue based blonde dye over that (possibly more than once) until it wasn't orange anymore. I'd really be afraid to bleach after all of this. This is just what I would do though, not a perfect solution.

I'm thinking I might not do it. I might wait until spring and keep trimming until then just to get all the bleached ends off. But my hair feels really healthy. I have been taking really good care of it. I think the darkness makes it shine. Blonde highlights may not be as luminating. I don't know. I always get the urge to be blonde when I am dark-haired without fail. The only thing good is that my hair did not break or anything when I did the colorfix on the strand test 3 times. Last august I tried another color remover and the hair broke. That either means that my hair is healthier and stronger now, or that colorfix is just not damaging. When I did the colorfix, the hair actually looked a really shiny orange. I was expecting it to come out a yucky dull orange, but it actually looked really rich and shiny like it was in great health. I would never keep the orange color, but it made me less nervous in using colorfix. As if it comes out bad I can just color it dark again and it will be in the same condition it was before I even used colorfix on it

Thanks for getting back to me re: what color(s) you used to achieve your dark shade. I'm thinking about having my colorist do something similar next time I go to the salon. My current color is medium auburn, similar to Debra Messing's color. My natural color is dark brown.

If the ColorFix is not making your hair any lighter after a few applications, maybe you should settle on a darker color, for now. You're fortunate that you happen to look good in both light and dark shades. Whatever you decide, best of luck! Please post a pic of the final outcome.
