Hi!! I am new to the site, hope I am posting in the right place. I am a natural medium brown, but have my hair dyed red. I also have gray hair and it is very hard to get them the same color. I think that my hair satylist is not very good. My roots look light orange and the color does not last long at all. Can someone tell me what color to get and how to apply it so I can get an even color?
Thank you in advance.

Is your stylist touching up only your roots, or is she coloring your whole head each time? Lighter roots are usually a result of applying the product to the whole head each time, but it's hard to imagine an experienced stylist doing that.

Some color products last longer than others. If what you are using is not working for you, your stylist should switch you to another product. Reds usually fade worse than other colors. You can renew your faded color by coloring with a demipermanent color, which doesn't have any bleaching effect.

Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

Yeah, I'm a student and even I know that color shouldn't be applied one shot throughout the entire length of the hair.. there's no way a stylist could do that.

Also, you could try pre-pigmenting your gray hair with the natural base color of your hair e.g: if your hair is brown, just stain some brown coloring + water and wait for 10 minutes or so and wash them off, then apply the fashion color. Helps with the color balancing. Not sure how they do things where you live though. I've noticed a huge difference in the way people do things in Europe compared to Asia due to the hair structure difference/climate/etc. Just my two cents.

red hair color fades drastically...and getting grey hair to take any kind of color is a bit tricky, especially red...Obviously your roots are lifting too much--she may want to down the volume on her developer, add a toner, or even change to a different shade when touching up the roots. Also--some brands have special formulas especially for grey hair. If your not satisfied, then I suggest you go to a new stylist that can give you what you want...These are minor problems that your having, and if your stylist can seem to correct them, then either you two arent communicating so well, or she just cant grasp a good fix on the result you want.
