I have dark brown hair and would like to do more of a all over honey blonde highlight look. The only thing that is holding me back is the thought of dark roots! Is there a way (at the salon) that the stylist can just touch up your roots every few weeks? How often do you need to get your roots done? Thank you!

I used to do mine around every three weeks, maybe four... I''d be perfect for the first two weeks or so, and then they''d creep in, it would almost look like pepper along my hairline. Then, BANG, they''re uber-noticeable, therefore it was time for a touch-up.

When I had a stylist do it, they''d apply bleach to the darker roots only, rinse, and then apply a toner all over to take out the brassiness of the old blonde (I found mine would always turn golden after a few weeks), and even out the new roots. The toner isn''t the same as color-- I don''t think it does any harm at all. With the stylist applying bleach to the new hair only, you don''t have much worries as far as breakage or damage goes-- it''s minimal.

The three-week thing applied to me, but, depending on how fast your hair grows and the extremeness of the contrast between light and dark, you may be able to hold off longer. You may even like the look of some roots showing... think Sarah Jessica Parker. :)

Roots are becoming trendy to an extent, actually...The stars that you see with dark streaky roots are actually getting them painted in...
