Hi. I'm a guy looking to dye my hair jet black and possibly add some random darker red streaks. My current hair color is a med/dark brown. Guess i'm just looking for advice on what kind of dye to get to avoid the blue tint as much as possible, and how to go about adding in the red streaks first. Any help is appreciated!!

Hey! I used to use Natural instincts which is a semipermanent, and i loved it since it did't damage my hair at all..Now I use Revlon colorsilk (black, not blue black or soft black)and I absolutely love it! My hair is jet black and I didn't notice any damage so far..I don't really know about adding the streaks, somebody else is gonna have to help you with that good luck!

Hi, I have seen some highlighting kits that are used to get red highlights, why dont you try one of those, they bring everything you need and are very easy to use, especially if you buy teh brush on highlight kits. good luck, let us know how it comes out.

If u have long hair pleeeeeeeeese reconsider, as that's one of the worst mistakes anyone can do in terms of coloring. Try a demi or semi-perm becuz its pointless to dye ur hair w/ perm if ur going darker and if its black....it's practically impossible to take out once u get sick of it, (which happens often!) So just use a longer lasting semi if u really wanna do it. If u have short hair then its ok cuz it'll grow out quickly and u could just cut it off.
Anyways its kinda tricky to put red streak on top of the black so u'll most likely have to bleach out the strands u want red to the orangey stage and apply the red dye.
Otherwise, get a por to do this!

Im shocked that people here keep pointing out if you go black it is impossible to get out because I have been black several times with various streaks of blonde, red etc and have never had trouble getting back to very light blonde when I decide to go back that is. I guess it depends on how porous your hair is. My hair has a hard time holding onto red. It fades, washes out etc until its a burgandy or light red. Even when I was blonde my hair didnt take red too well. My red layer in my hair now was a bright red but as you can see now
<---------------------you can barely see the red.

I would suggest having the black done by a pro that can panel in your red. That way you dont get black on the areas you want red. If you go all over black I dont think the red will take or stay on the black hair. I suggest going to a salon that can do your black and foil in the red on the hair color you have now so it will show up on the black.

U might be lucky, I meant most pple have trouble w/ gettin it out and anyways even if u can its stressful on the hair. Anyways, why would u wanna put in a permanent color if ur going darker???

Its really pointless unless ur white/gray haired, becuz perm. has 20 vol. which should only be used for covering gray, and anything above for "lifting." Using deposite only (10 vol) color helps the hair absorb it better and it doesn't fade that fast either, reds are more susceptible to fading, so by the time the roots show the top sorta blends more 'gracefully' so that the growth isn't in-ur-face obvious, and thne u can just retouch w/ out worrying abt destroying ur hair.

First of all I did not do my hair color I have now. I spent 140.00 at a SO CALLED professional and I was not happy with the results. Not to mention my hair was longer than shoulder length when I got the color and then last week I went to another SO called professional and she game me on hell of a hack job hair cut. I was not happy with her expert cutting skills either. If I could cut my own hair I sure would.

FYI My haircut is what messed up my highlights. With such intense highlights a bad hair cut can really make them look off. I have color paneling done to my hair, layer of black, layer of red, layer of black, and then black and blonde highlights on the top. With the cut I just got it doesnt show my highlights like they are susposed to look. ANYONE knows a bad cut can really throw off hair color if you have 3 or 4 colors of highlights.

Last 2 things Ive done to my hair a PROFESSIONAL done and I was/am 100% unsatisfied. That is why I am tempted to cut most of it off and either let it grow, or color it all over again.

FYI the back of my hair can be worn 3 ways. One is the way like you seen with all the blonde mixed in with the red and black, or like in the pics I just uploaded where the blonde is to the sides of my head and only the red and black show, and 3rd I can spike the back up.

Also, I just added 4 or 5 new pics to my album this morning to show the way my hair is colored. I have not fixed my hair yet this morning this is just how it looks when I wake up. Im on my way to gym so I dont style my hair before I go workout.

I LIKE my color somewhat, although I wasnt happy most of the bright red faded to a darker color and Im totally not happy with my haircut but what can I do?

anyway here is the link to the new pics

I actually think it looks neat but it really looks different from the ur previous pic of the highlights from the back of ur head.
Maybe u should consider extensions if u don't like ur cut, while u grow it out a bit.
Now I don't get my hair profesisonally done becuz i've decide to be *sneaky* and get my haircolor through my hairdresser aunt, hehe. I managed to ask my salon for hte formula, becuz it was kind of a rip-off just to get my roots retouched at $65.00
It's kinda tricky doing my roots myself but form now on I'm going to section my hair into 4 prts, so I don't miss the back of my head! lol
Well i'm just rambling on, so i guess i'll stop.
