when you are touching up highlights (blonde with bleach), how do you avoid having any overlap?

do you pull the bleach all the way through every few foils?

after you take the foils out, should you spread the bleach over the entire head and leave for a few minutes to refresh, like you do with color?

I've read that stylists can apply conditioner on the strands the are already highlighted so it doesn't get affected when/if the bleach touches it. I guess u could try the foil thing tho, but try not to leave it in the root area so long otherwise u'll have white roots and darker blonde strands!!
