hi there-
my stylist has been doing hairlocs for almost 3 years- she has her own salon in Rancho Cucamonga- ask for a free consult and tell her cait sent you- her work is fantastic- she is flown all over the world to do this too. She is an expert at putting these in and also styling and cutting them.
www.hairlocs.info
lots of people are trained how to do this method- however, chck references, see there portfolio and check out their work before you make a commitment with them. Sand is great you will love her personality- she will teach you how to care for your extensions etc.
good luck

I actually have an appointment with her already. She's putting them in this week. I found her on the internet right after I made the first post. She seems very knowledgable and nice. I ordered 20" and can't wait to get them in. Thanks for responding.

Looks great when they're done but Hairlocs are not meant for the long haul.

The patina in the copper Hairloc shells stains your hair and the end of the extension green. The clamps also break the hair off and several months wear has left people with less than half the hair they started with.

There's some real horror stories out there about Hairlocs.

hello-
i am so sorry you have had a bad time wiht hairlocs- it actually depends on who is putting them in. I will agree with you about the shell making a color on the hair- WHICH by the way washes out immediatley-
again so sorry you have had a bad experience with yours. It really rings true to what i said- depends entirely on who is applying them and ther experience- i have worn hairlocs for two years- took a year off and my hair was not damaged at ALL.

cait,

No disrespect but you can be the Rancho Hairlocs "Expert" posing as a satisfied customer, as far as I'm concerned. You definitely seem to be a little too quick on the defensive about Hairlocs.

Look around the Internet. There are many many women currently voicing their dissatisfaction with these extremely damaging metal clamps. They're breaking hair off and pulling them out by the roots.

And please don't try the "they are certified and specially trained" angle. It's not rocket science, cait. Even Jesus Christ with a Hairlocs Certificate putting these things in couldn't stop the hair breakage.

Your response? ...

oh geesh- No i am not the Rancho Expert. She is way to busy to be on the internet. And being quick to respond, well thats just me. So sorry you have had a bad experience with extensions. I actually have not seen people with problems. But i guess everyone can have a problem with anything. Again it depends on how they are put in!.

in defense of Cait she is not the stylist. I also go to Sand and she is great. I love hairlocs and have had them put in two different times. Everyone has an opinion and likes different things. My sister has great lengths and loves them.

We don't need to attack people for there comments.

I totally agree: Hairlocs suck. They're way overpriced (thousands of dollars), they slip out constantly, and they do cause some damage (not as much as GLs and other bond methods, though). And the hair's not all that great, either. The stains do wash out, but they just come back--they're tarnish stains, after all--so they'll always be in your hair while you wear them. And the Hairlocs stylists I've dealt with are highly dishonest--they claim they don't know any of this, meanwhile all their clients have the same problems. If you must get extensions, get pinchbraids--they're the cheapest, most secure, and least damaging method. And as far as expertise/skill, PLEASE--it takes a one-day course to get "trained" in the method; that's hardly what I'd call extensive expertise.
