Hello I have had extensions before and I believe they have been 100% human European hair. When brushed, the quality is fine. But it tends to get stringy a few minutes after its brushed so I have had to keep brushing it all day. I like the extensions the celebrities wear, like Angelina Jolie wore on Tomb Raider and Original Sin. And all of the other caucasian celebrities' extensions look so real and soft and never stringy or tangled. What is the best quality brand extensions for softness and untangled? Where do I get them?

Hi Amy,

Nearly every major brand claims that they are the one celebrities use, but there's really very little definitive information on that. Plus, a lot of the time, these celebs are actually wearing wigs or clip-ins. You can't really tell how good their extensions are based on photo shoots or red-carpet appearances. Also, I'm sure they switch brands quite often, depending on movie rolls, who's doing their hair, etc., so you really shouldn't choose a method based on what the celebrities use or what some extensionist claims they use.

Also, be aware that you never see celebs without their extensions or wigs, so you can't see the damage the extensions may be doing to their own hair. I've seen outtakes and paparazzi shots of a few unwitting celebs who look like their hair is trashed from whatever methods they used (Britney, Xtina, Lisa Kudrow, Pam Anderson, Courtney Love, etc.). I've also seen celebrities who have the same piece-y effect your describing (including Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie); Britney's extensions have looked great and sometimes horrible (I saw one behind-the-scenes special on her, where you could totally see the wefts in her hair).

As far as Angelina Jolie goes, I have no idea what she uses, although I know she's worn wigs and clip-ins for certain roles. She looks like she has very nice, thick hair to begin with, so the extensions look great on her, of course. I'm almost certain her hair in "Tomb Raider" is a clip-on piece, not extensions.

If you're looking into extensions for yourself, I would urge you to take a look at this thread, which has an overview for beginners, and do a lot of research: http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum/viewthread.asp?forum=AMB_AP934431446&id=2549
. It is sort of natural to assume that more expensive means better quality, but a lot of the people on these boards have gotten burned trying the expensive "celebrity" methods. They are not necessarily better; in my experience, they've actually been worse.

When you're selecting extensions, the two most important questions to ask are: What is my natural hair like (texture, length, color, thickness, damaged/nondamaged, etc.)?; and what kind of look do I want to achieve with extensions? Once you've figured that out, then you can explore the best possible options for you.

Good luck!:)

Oops, quite right. LOL. Here I am linking you to your own thread; that won't help you at all. Here's the one you need: http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum/viewthread.asp?forum=AMB_AP934431446&id=2549

i'm not a beautician, nor am i sales person. i've been around the block when it comes to extensions, believe me! i've gone to a few places that sell hair..but not very good hair...i've come back to the shops with some knotted up crap on my head that the retailer told me was "quality"...or 100% human hair and come to find out - 100% yak tail or something...i also found out where they the term "yakki"...derived from...
anyway, i've been screwed at a few places, J&M beauty supply, west coast beauty, His and Her's (i was blow drying the silky straight weft - which was great - but when i was finished a lot of the hair had blown off of the wefts and were laying on the floor. i called up to L.A. and told them what had happened, and the girl said "you should have asked for glue on the wefts before you bought them.) i never had ordered silky straight before, and wondered... i guess i was supposed to know this ahead of time?
i also ordered from AfroWorld (afroworld.com), and they took my money order and kept making excuses...i ordered from them before and had no problem..then boom...no hair...Russ Little is in charge somewhere in Missouri...i filed a complaint with the better business bureau, and they sent my check back within a week after they spoke with them. i still can't figure that one out.

I found a place that is not online..has been in the business for over 30 years. Extensions Plus. their number is 818 881 5611 then hit "0" to talk to someone. Their extensions are bit expensive, but they are of higher quality, and quite a few celebrities get their extensions from them. i've been a customer of theirs for a few years...and i don't contact them often...i take very good care of my extensions and they last for a least a good 9 - 12 months...probably more if i had the ones that are not permed. (i had mine spiraled).

tina used to work there and i'm sorry she's left to have her kid, but apparently they have a few more newbies there...thus, please be patient...one newbie was suspicious that i was a hairdresser ....thus, i must emphasize "tell them you are not a beautician"....

i hope you are as happy with your hair as i am, and the other girls in front of the camera...also, they don't feel like extensions...i wash and condition my hair/extensions with Farouk Pre-Plus products. They are wonderful! and the shine comes from Farouk "BioSilk" it's clear with a silk base..not silicon..which isn't bad either!
good luck!

some days, it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.
