As far as holding the curl, I just use an iron, too. Some human hair holds curl better than others. What brand are you using? Have you tried hot rollers or a curl-enhancing styling product?
Per the conditioner, that would again depend on the hair, but I really like Pantene Relaxed and Natural Intensive Moisture Conditioner (NOT THE OIL CREAM VERSION). It's supercheap and makes the hair quite silky. I also like Neutrogena's Intensive Repair Conditioner (also fairly inexpensive).
If you're trying to promote curl in wavy hair, though, you may want to go with something a little lighter. I love these brands for making hair smooth and silky, but they could be a bit heavy for some people. Paul Mitchell's Supercharged conditioner would also fall into this category.
Beyond that, I've always liked Goldwell's conditioners, as well as the John Frieda line.
Again, I basically wear my hair straight and then add some loose waves with an iron. I'm sure others will chime in with their suggestions.
I like to spray each section of hair with Biolage Thermal Active setting spray, and then curl it with an iron, section by section. It gives nice hold without being too sticky.
I love Biolage products, by the way. I think the Ultra Hydrating shampoo and conditioner is great for extension hair, and as a leave in conditioner I like the Shine Milk.
If you want mega hold, then I opt for a hairspray like Super Shaper (spray each section and then curl) . I have used that for clients who want ringlets for a special occasion.
Good luck!

I have some stuff from Sallys. When I get a batch of hair that doent hold curl well I use this stuff. Its called Isoplus thermocurler. You just spray it on the strand you want to curl and then curl it with your curling iron while the strand is still damp.
