Does anyone find with silky-straight human-hair extensions it's hard to create waves without heat-styling it?
Ever since I've had extensions, I've tried to create waves by wrapping the hair in scrunchies or braids while I'm sleeping, but the result is always kinky frizz. This method works great for adding body and loose waves to my own (naturally straight) hair, but it has never worked well with any extensions I've had. It's almost as if it makes "creases," rather than waves.
What's unfortunate is that after I've slept on it, my hair usually looks so whacked-out that I have to redo everything from scratch: wash, blow-dry, curl, etc.
I'm wondering if this might be because the hair is so overprocessed and has very little (if any) cuticle left.
Ive never had any luck either with braids scrunchies etc.... I am in the same boat as you. Once Ive slept on my hair its trashed. I have to wash and dry it and start fresh.
I wear mine straight so I can't comment on making waves, but I do have to do a lot of work to make my hair look good. This is my routine every single morning - thoroughly wet hair in the shower, condition and comb through, blot excess water with towel, spritz some spray conditioner, comb out any tangles, blow dry completely and flat iron. I have to do this for it to look good every day and this is with bohyme hair and I sleep on a satin pillow case. I guess this is why after just 3 months I have split ends like there's no tomorrow!
The last time I had loose synth extensions, I would always brush and braid my hair before bed (I recommend everyone with extensions does this). When I woke up, I would just un-braid it, and not only would it be perfect and untangled, it would be slightly wavy too (and I didn't even heat or wet it while it was braided). It made mornings really easy, because I didn't even have to untangle or wash it- just unbraid it and brush with a smoothing brush, and I was done.
I don't know about the rest of you, but my morning routine has gotten WAY out of hand. I'm a slave to my hair, really. It's no way to live....
If this synth doesn't work out, maybe I'll make the leap to dreads or something. My only concern is that they can look awesome or absurd, depending on the person (they always seem to look cool on younger, teen and twentysomething women). I'm afraid I'd look a little silly........ :)
Hey Jenny, and everybody else that want's waves. I have a suggestion for ya to get your hair wavy, but you can't laugh at me. Ok! here goes. Have you ever been in the grocery store or any store that carries some types of hair supplies? Well, do you remember seeing packages of pink foam rollers? I have been using them for years and find they work better than anything else. I don't like curls on the bottom of my hair, I like the slight wavy look too. Anyway, depending on the thickness of your hair, you should only need about 7 or 8 of the rollers (I know they don't cost much). Put your hair in a pony tail on the TOP of your head and then put the rollers in. Because the pony tail is on top of your head is causes your hair to be wavy all the way down your back, not just on the ends. It looks really beautiful because it just cascades down your back. Don't wet the hair though because then it gets too curly. I tried that last weekend and my hair was kinda frizzy on the ends and too curly. I had to do my hair all over again. Oh! and when you roll your hair in the curlers, don't start from the ends of your hair and wrap in, you need to start from the base of the pony tail and wrap out toward the end of your hair. When your wrapping the hair around the roller, do it LOOSE, especially the ends, otherwise your hair will be too curly. It's the only thing that works for me and it usually lasts for a couple days. Please Please try it, I guarantee you will love it! Even if it seems a little to curly at first (depending on the texture of your hair) just wait a few minutes and it will relax, and you will have beautiful waves. Please let me know how it turns out. :-)
Unfortunately, I think the problem is that my extensions just don't set very well with any non-heat styling method, rollers included. Rollers, pin curls, scrunchis all works great on my own hair, but the human-hair extensions just crimp up and look frizzy....
