Colored Shampoos?

I've used the John Frieda line for brunettes and it really does leave color in your hair - but I don't like how it makes my hair feel afterwards...not very soft. I used his mousse for blonds once to tone down red in my hair...couldn't see much difference but it's okay mousse. (Mousse...can you believe that? So 80s!!)
I think these colored hair prods are good for colored hair...they do make the color last a bit longer.

a company called ARTec makes an excellent line of color-depositing shampoos....they have three or four different shades of red alone....when i was letting my natural haircolor grow out (a coppery red somewhere between strawberry blonde and headache orange) after a few months of punishing bleach, i bought two shades and mixed them, it worked great but left a mess on my hands and the shower...they're about the closest i've seen to a shampoo that actually "dyes" your hair...pretty reasonably priced too...

every hair product of this ilk will dry out your hair...you may want to mix a little cheap cream rinse with it when you shampoo to tone down the color and minimize the straw-factor. if your hair is bleached, they WILL stain it...it's an ordeal to get the color out...

I use this and reccomend it to all my color clients, it's great stuff. Artec also has tinted conditioners too. The shampoos aren't meant for everyday use tho, just once or twice a week, because it really doesn't clean the scalp and will not lather up on dirty hair. So if your hair is dirty it is best to wash your hair with your regular shampoo first and then shampoo with the Artec pigmented shampoo and follow with the tinted conditioner if you want.

BTW the tinted conditioner isn't as strongly pigmented as the shampoo. So the conditioner is good if you just need a little toning.

Good to know. Maybe I'll just get the conditioner then. Is ARTec available pretty much anywhere, by the way? Like at Ricky's or other beauty-supply shops? (I don't think we have a Sally's in NYC, strangely enough.) :)
