Trimco synthetic hair? I went through Hairpolice to find someone local(2hrs away) She uses Trimco...which I assume is what HP uses as a standard. I mentioned PH,Dome, and WA-WA in an email to her. She said she had never heard of those brands but wasn't oppsed to using them. She also quoted $250-350 for install-hair included in price.
Yeah, Trimco is high-quality synth monofiber, comprable to Dome, ProStyles, and PH in quality. As far as I know, Hairpolice uses Trimco exclusively, and they sell mixed bags of various colors at really good prices, plus the shipping isn't much since they're in the U.S. The only drawback is that Trimco's hair only comes in straight--no wavy textures available (at least that I know of).
Wa-Wa is in another family of synth--thermofiber--which includes Freetress, Hot Stuff Fusion, American Dream thermofiber, and (I think) another brand (not sure of the name) available on ebonyline.com. People are testing those brands now, but I haven't come across anyone who's posted a review of them for long-term use.
That's a great price, and I love the HairPolice method. I'm surprised she hasn't heard of Dome, though; it's been around forever. But she's probably only used Trimco if she's HP trained.... :)
Yes, in fact I bought a mixed bag of Trimco hair - 4 different colors - and I think including shipping it was $45 or so. For 8 oz of hair - a lot. The hair itself is lovely. Very natural looking and great colors. Straight, tho, and I haven't had much luck curling it mainly cuz of my curling iron. I have not pretipped it or installed any of it either, but it appears to be very nice hair. So far the best synth I've bought. The WaWa is also very good - curls well and looks natural - but has very small color selection. Also limited lengths.
Yep, Trimco is pretty well known. All the HP stylists and a few others use it. I use it sometimes, though PH is starting to take over because of their smaller bags (which means more color options) and the greater length. Trimco is kinda short- about 30" unfolded, about the same length as Dome.
Thanks All...I just emailed the HP tech in my area about lengths and textures. I'm shooing for about 18" My hair is naturally pretty straight-just a little body if I work at it. The WA WA seems to appeal to me because of the versatility and ability to withstand heat. Does anyone khnow if trimco can withstand an iron? Yet PH has a great color selection. Hmmmmmm...... what's a girl to do? Someone mentioned earlier the drawbacks to WA-WA and Trimco is the length.... So if it claims 12" Do I assume it's 6" because it's doubled over? Or am I mistaken? I'll repost when I hear back from Jessica from HP. $250- You can't beat that with a stick!!!! If I don't hear more from you all first!
You don't have to double the hair over, but with the HP/pinchbraid method, the hair does need to be overlapped about 1 1/2 to 2 inches, so if you want 18 inch, you'll need to get about 20-inch hair to be safe. I don't know if the WaWa comes in this length, but perhaps one of the other thermofibers does. Obviously, the Trimco would be long enough. The PH would be more than long enough to double it over.
You probably shouldn't use a curling iron on Trimco. I doubt it would work, and I think it would actually singe the hair, although you can (I imagine) set it with the boiling-water or steam-roller techniques. If you plan on wearing your hair wavy, I would suggest using Dome or PH rather than Trimco. I also wouldn't go with Trimco or any other straight synth brand unless your real hair is stick-straight, because it would be difficult to blend. If your real hair is straight, it could work.
