UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! :-( :-(
I took out my extensions almost 2 weeks ago and I can not STAND the way my hair looks. I went in for an emergency haircut right after I took them out and she had to cut off about 4 inches, and it still looks like hell. It would be soooooooooo easy for me to go have the extensions put back in right now but I don't want to have to EVER go through this again. My hair is sooooo thin and has absolutely NO body. In the past when I would flat iron my hair, it would make it really silky. Well............ now, no matter what I do to it, it looks totally dry and lifeless. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what hair products work really well? I need to condition the crud out of it with deep conditioning treatments. I found a really cute picture of Jessica Simpson with the cutest cut (kind of a long bob), however, I have no body whatsoever in my hair so it probably wouldn't even look good. Wow! to go from 24" hair, to hair above your shoulders, is such a shock. ANYONE GOT A BAG?!?!?

Hey lisa,
I still think you should get yourself a few clip-in pieces. You can even cut them short like Jessica Simpsons bob. They'll give you the body you want and you can order them online or even make them yourself.

Good luck with everything,
Kristin

I totally agree: Clip-ins, clip-on ponytails, and 3/4 wigs are all great options. While your hair is growing out, you can experiment with all of these options and figure out what works best for you. :)

Thanks girls for all the responses, but at this point, I don't want to put ANYTHING in my hair. I don't want to take the chance of even clips pulling or putting tension on my hair. I'm just looking for some quality hair products to help repair the hair I do have. Like I said, it would be so easy for me to put the extensions back in but I would eventually have to go through this again. I have had beautiful hair all my life and I just want to get it back. When my hair girl does my hair and styles it, it actually looks half way decent (with a little bounce), but when I try it, my hair comes out looking so dry. She uses a roll brush on it as she's drying it and also has an extension on the end of the blow dryer which helps to smooth the cuticle, but I have even tried using a brush like that and it still doesn't come out like when she does it, not to mention the fact that my arms feel like there gonna fall off from holding them up so long. I have tried many many deep conditioning treatments but haven't really found one that does a spectacular job. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks girls!

Lisa, read up on MSM. http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=msm+&ei=UTF-8&fr=FP-tab-web-t&fl=0&x=wrt - my mom and brother are avid users and I've seen a marked improvement.

You may also consider prenatal vitamins. These supplements can have an astonishing effect on hair growth and repair.

Everyone wearing extensions should take vitamins and suuplements for the hair.

I want to say AMM is right on the money about MSM. It really does make the hair grow stronger. You won't notice for three monthes, but when you notice you'll be really excited. christina

Thanks for the info Amm. I actually have been taking prenatal vitamins for quite some time and I'm also taking another vitamin for hair, nails and skin. I guess the combination of medication (with hairl loss being a side effect) and wearing really long (24") hair extensions, it just really did a number on my hair. I have pictures to post on this site, and Kristen even went as far as to host them for me, but I still can't figure out how the heck to get them on this site. What can I say! just a little computer iliterate. It's sooooooooooo f$#@%#$ frustrating. I'm kinda moody!

Have you tried using natural oils on your hair, like jojoba and sweet almond oil? A drop or two through the hair each day can work wonders.

Most "hot oil" and other deep conditioners contain no oil. I'm skeptical whether they work in any way besides increasing manufacturer's profits. I've used carrot cholesterol (hollywood beauty) to good effect, but generally I prefer a natural oil for heat treatments. Others oils I have used are macadamia nut oil and melted cocoa butter.

I no longer use shampoo, only conditioner. It is much gentler on fragile thin hair. I start with a 1:8 vinegar rinse, then use Suave Daily Clarifying conditioner, followed by Suave Humectant, and Pantene Pro-V. Comb out while rinsing out the conditioner.

Heat-style as little as possible.

Me too. I'd love to hear more. What inspired you to start this regimen, how long have you been doing it, and what differences have you seen in that time?

I never thought of using vinegar instead of shampoo, but it's an interesting idea. I've heard many wonderful things about almond oils.

By the way, I recently met a girl who said she had amazing growth (growing her hair out from a bad cut) with Maxi-Hair vitamins. I used them for a little while myself, but stopped too soon to have any opinion about their effectiveness.

:)

I discovered it last April when I discovered long hair boards and became aware.

At that time there were a lot of women excited about the process. Since then it appears many have given it up for a variety of reasons, most of them weird or irrelevant.

I've found a number of conditioners that clean well - Suave Daily Clarifying conditioner, VO5 Free Me Freesia and Hydrators - but I've found many more that work poorly or not at all. Many women try the procedure once using a conditioner I have found does not work, and decide that conditioner wash is the problem. Others say they tried "Suave", as though all Suave products were created equal. Some use a very expensive salon product which most likely will leave lots of icky residue on the hair, rather than washing it away.

Some women give it up because it doesn't seem to moisturize their hair sufficiently. When I found this was the case, I figured that the same product probably couldn't be a great cleaner and a great moisturizer, and added another moisturizing conditioner.

There also has been some dissatisfaction with the idea of conditioner wash, aside from the fact that there are women who have been using it satisfactorily for years. One woman in particular has posted repeatedly that it will suddenly cause many skin and scalp problems in the future for women using it apparently successfully now, her only evidence being the opinion of a dermatologist who probably never heard of it before she brought it up.

I like to wash my hair every other day, but given my schedule, it's usually twice a week, as I get home too late to air-dry.

Last April my hair was in very ratty condition at the ends, breaking off rather than growing long. Now it's in the best condition of my life.

Onward to classic!

:)

Actually, the purpose of the vinegar is not to replace shampoo, but to remove any silicone buildup from the Pantene I use last. I don't think vinegar has any cleansing effect, seeing that oil and water don't mix. I tried it once and it didn't touch my greasies.

Vijay was really into almond oil, yeeh. Remember him? I had some creepy bmails from him about almond oil.

I used a variety of vitamins for a while, but gave them up when I didn't observe any consistent improvement. Hair does not grow at a constant rate. So if you take vitamins when you're annoyed that your hair growth is too slow to suit you, sooner or later you will see your growth rate speed up, and you might attribute it to the vitamins, where you wouldn't even have noticed the small difference if you weren't obsessed. It's unlikely we have the kind of severe deficiency that causes slowing of hair growth. Hair does not grow in proportion to the amount of biotin you take, anyway. If only I could get my hair to grow 15 times as fast by taking 5 mg a day (15 times the daily requirement), I assure you I would be doing it.

That's a good point about the vitamins.

I was only on the long-hair forum once, but yes, I do remember Vijay--because he posted that almond oil tip on every thread, lol!

Thanks for the info, :)

I know lots of people take massive doses of biotin in order to increase their hair growth. There's just no evidence that it does this in anyone without a biotin deficiency. The link you posted is from a site trying to sell megadose biotin pills, and only claims to "support" growth, whatever that means.

Kelp is ok, but unless you eat it as a vegetable, you're not likely to see any effect, if such an effect exists.

I had really bad damaged hair from an extension removal years ago and had to cut my hair pretty short. My hair grows extremely slow and I mean slow. I took Biotin, Kelp and I definitely noticed my hair and nails grew better than normal. My nails would never ever grow but they did while I took Biotin. So no complaints here.
