Ive been wearing dome extensions for 6 months. I love them but want my own steamer so I can steam them. Ive heard some would be better for hair than other ones. Are any of these steamers okay for dome hair? How do you steam it? Does anyone have directions? Thank you.

I'm not even familiar with the dome method, can someone tell me what that is? I know it's a braid technique, but that's about it, Thanks.

Bridget~I just got the Dome video last week. It is a four braid, then you wrap a piece of the hair around the braid and heat seal it with the C2. You need an assistant to do this particular method. That's why Metalgirl and I are going to the Prostyles course to learn the 3 braid heat seal which you can do yourself. I don't have an assistant so the Dome method is out for me.

ahh, I've been practicing the pinch braid method, and that's about all the braiding these fingers can take right now!

I think with the pinch braiding, come time to wrap the thread around the braid and secure it, it would be easier (for me) to not braid in the thread, and to thread it through last with a needle and secure it this way. Whatcha think?

I have never tried pinch braiding. I was deciding between the Hairpolice class that does the pinch braid with string or the ProStyles heat seals. I decided on heat seals because I thought they might be a little less detectable, from what I've seen from photos.
I will have to get out my mannequin and give the pinch braid a try Bridget. I love the fact it is very non damaging to the hair, which is a big plus!!

Hey Bridget,

I'm not sure you'd get the same results if you threaded the string through afterward. I could be wrong, but I think it's critical that the string be incorporated with the braid so that it's in there snugly. The string is really what makes the whole connection secure. But like I said, I'm not sure; you might want to ask Rae.

:)

In the meantime, maybe Rae can advise. I believe she said something about keeping the wattage under a certain number (I'll have to search to find that post). I imagine BoogieMama or Julie would know, too. :)

Yeah, 900W. But that's mainly for your own safety, not the hair. I haven't used steamers on loose synth ever.
