QuoteReplyTopic: purging tool....? Posted: March 11 2005 at 7:02pm
Hi everyone, Does anyone know how this is used? It is on the superhairfactory site. THey say it reheats the bond. Is this for fusion pretipped strands? DUH- I don't get it.
It looks like maybe a single sided heat wand for fusion. (However, I don't know a whole lot about fusion.) Kristin sells a double sided one (a little clamp thing) for about $40 more that can be used for fusion or shrinkies.
some fusion adhesives like Torain and wax based glues require that you reheat the bonds to remove them. Hence the purging tool. And the tool that Leia said looks like a soldering iron basically looks just like one! Not the same tool as a single side heat or dual side heat fusion wand.
I can just picture it....two of those humongous Sears Craftsman 5-foot tall toolboxes side-by-side. One for my boyfriend's motorcycle tools, and one for my hair supplies.
Edited because I can't type and eat Girl Scout cookies at the same time. Yum!

This was the kit I purchased many years ago (no longer have it). It had the same purging tool you are talking about. It is used to bond the fusion extensions to the hair. They use the gun or the hotbox to apply the glue to the ends of the extension hair then they place the extension to the underside of the natural hair then gently rolling back and forth then release quickly, then they take the purging tool which will cradle the attachment you just made. They keep the purging tool there for about 5-7 secs until the bubbling is complete (which is removing the moisture) then gently roll again. This method is from the Mega Hair System video that came with the kit. They do not use this tool for the removal of the extension hair, they use a fusion removal solution with the pliers to remove the bonds.
I chucked the kit because the hot box was so big and took up too much space. I also found that too much glue was disbursed onto the hair from the dispenser. I didn't like the bubbling idea on the hair and never used it myself, but on my mannequin.
Yes, you can use the purging tool to apply pre-tipped hair. You just have to make sure you let the bubbling complete~ removing all the moisture before you roll the extension.

OH NO!!!! dont use the purging tool mto try to remove the extensions as you will melt all the wax all through your hair! The purging tool is used as this......
.....Once you roll the bond, some certain types of hair glue (NOTE: purging tool not designed to be used with Keratin wax) you need to re-heat it with the purging tool (as certain types of glue are heavier) and this makes sure it bubbles the glue all through the strands making sure it has a perfect seal and less shedding.
It makes your time double. I trained using this method, only now i use Keratin wax (which is lighter and doesnt need purged) and it is much quicker.
I occasionally still use the purging tool but only if there's a bond im not happy with or would like to tidy up and by melting the bond again you are able to re-roll.

Ok you ae correct that the purging tool is used for reheating the bond to remove any moisture. I know the method is used with Torain not sure about any others. But in Torains training manual it specifically says to use the purging tool or the tip of the hot glue gun to reheat the bond to remove. That is what I based my post on. I also know people that use the Torain method and say the quickest way to remove them is to use a large barrel curling iron to clamp several bonds at once to heat the bonds and slide them off then use oil to remove the glue residue. I guess the point I was trying to make is that the purging tool is not the same as the fusion wand......
It's not hard to use, it's just more time consuming as It's like doing the process twice on one head. Not for me!! I like the dual fusion wands much better.

Hi sherrie I was never taught this. I was taught that to remove the extensions you use the solution and removing tongs. Wouldnt using the purging tool be similar to accidently catching the bonds with straighteneing irons and melt the wax through all your hair? Or do you just purge the glue until it desintigrates on the hair?
Please explain this to me as i was never told this?
Thanks x

Im always interest in learning any new ways of removal as with pure keratin wax sticks that i use, removal with a solution and removal plyers can take anything between 2-4 hrs and is a struggle so possibly if i new more of your method then i could use this instead.

HH100...this is ONLY for Torain fusion. Here is what the Torain instruction manual says that came with my kit. TO DISENGAGE FUSION HAIR EXTENSIONS: #1 Apply one or two drops of oil (Torains own remover) directly on the adhesive connection #2 Singular removals are easily done with the applicator gun or the purging tool. (It shows a picture of the tip of the gun being placed on the bond) To remove multiple extensions and tracks from the head use a heated curling iron. Place the barrel of the iron directly on top of the adhesive until it melts down through the natural hair. ( there is a picture of several bonds being clamped with a curling iron) Make sure that all of the adhesive has been removed from the hair before you attempt to shampoo it out. If you feel any stickiness then you will need to apply more heat until adhesive is totally melted into the oil and dispersed. Apply shampoo directly to the hair before rinsing with water.
HH100 as I said this is for Torain which is WAX based fusion. Keratin is totally different and is not applied the same or removed the same way. With Keratin there is no need to purge the bond, nor the need to reheat the bond to remove. You just use remover(usually acetone based) and a pair of pliers to crunch the bond to remove.
