When sherly crow had her hair long and before madonna went giesha , how did they achive that look with the thick strands of not too curly curls?

Anybody know the techinque??

My guess (from experience from my own hair) is that they used differently-sized-barrel curling irons to achieve the look. Once curled, go over the curls lightly with Keihl's Silk and Groom or John Frieda's Secret Weapon styling cream. This gives a "piecy" look to them.
