QuoteReplyTopic: Questions for a Long Hair Lover (Gord) Posted: May 21 2001 at 5:35pm
Gord:
You are one of the most diligent and passionate posters on this board. As a person, who generally prefers shorter hairstyles on women, I often disagree with your assessments. Nevertheless, I appreciate the energy and enthusiasm you bring to the various discussion topics. As a lurker (I rarely post), I am always interested in what you have to say. With that said, I have a few questions:
1. Is your disdain for short hairstyles universal? If so why? 2. Why do you prefer longer hairstyles on women? 3. Have you ever seen a women/celebrity with shorter hair and thought that it was flattering (i.e. Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Wynona Ryder, etc.)? If so, whom? 4. Who is your favorite long-haired celeb?
I am not asking you to challenge your opinions. Frankly, I am just curious.
Sincerely,
clownboots
PS For all you other long hair lovers, feel free to answer the questions and post them.

I am diligent and passionate about my support for celebrities with long hair because of people like you: shorthair lovers, who probably make up the majority of people who visit Jerky Flea`s Hair Talk space. So many people -- myself included, at times -- write when a lady cuts her hair into a new style. I attempt to provide balance on the rare occasion that it goes the other way: all of a sudden, a celeb shows up with longer hair than many of us remember... or seems to be letting her hair grow out. I don`t have disdain for short hairstyles; I just prefer long hair. I always have, dating back to memories in elementary school. Later, while working as a reporter on my college newspaper, I got a chance to interview Debra Jo Fondren, the reigning Playboy Playmate of the Year who had hair to her knees. It was an experience I will never forget. Debra Jo has since cut her hair, but remains an icon for longhair lovers. Just check out any search engine and watch all the web sites that glorify her. When I see a celeb who cuts her hair, I am often horrified. Jennifer Aniston and Fiona Hutchinson (the returning Gabrielle of the ABC soap opera One Life to Live) were my most recent jolts. I felt the same way about Faith Hill and Celine Dion, even though I felt they both used extensions. And seeing Jane Fonda with short hair was a crusher. Same with Brooke Shields, although it seems to grow back quickly. And I may never be able to figure out what went through the heads of models Carmen Kass and Kristy Hume when they got similar haircuts about the same time. It`s tough to name my favorite longhaired celeb. Seeing Crystal Gayle in a newspaper article about The Long Hair Site was one of the factors that prompted me to get internet access, so she would be up there. Jane Seymour has been one of the leading ladies who has never gone short in my lifetime, except in movies. It`s not as long as it used to be, but I appreciate that. My favorite currently might be Anna Kournikova, since I saw her mane in person several times at Detroit Red Wings hockey games. She`s a big "fan" of Red Wing Sergei Fedorov and is considered somewhat of a goddess when she graces Joe Louis Arena. I couldn`t limit my favorite list to those three, though. Kim Richards in the movie Tough Turf. Beyonce Knowles of Destiny`s Child. Redheaded actress Julianne Moore. And I while I don`t "disdain" short hair, as you suggest, I can`t think of anyone I`d rather see in short hair. If Sela Ward has truly cut her hair shorter, she looked way better with it longer. Wynona Ryder and Katie Couric look better now that their hair is growing out. I like Susan Lucci`s and Barbra Streisand`s hair -- and neither wears it that long. Maybe it`s the bangs. Same with Holly Hunter, although I admit I liked it better longer. (I`m a huge Holly Hunter fan, though, so hair may not be a factor here.) Gloria Estefan has great hair when it`s in a straight style. And Lara Flynn Boyle always seems to look great, even when her hair is pulled back on The Practice. Maria Shriver also has great hair, but it`s not as long as others. So I do like other styles -- not often, but once in awhile. By visiting this list, I often think I`m a glutton for punishment. I told Jerky Flea so. Why do I like long hair more? What`s not to like about it? It makes older women look younger and younger women look sexy. Thanks for the opportunity to express and vent! Peace.

What an elegant and eloquent reply Gord. As a short haired lady, I salute you. I don`t think I have enough hair to grow it long but you certainly make a case for it.
