Periodically, a suggestion that this or that celebrity would look better with a change in hair style reignites the long v. short debate, with adherents of both schools taking a gentle ribbing over their views that any woman looks best with long or short hair.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or, to quote Robert Heinlein, "There is no accounting for taste." Personally, I happen to think that few women look good with super short hair, but once you get beyond a very short pixie, it becomes a matter of the woman`s individual style, hair type, and face shape, with few absolutes.
These pictures may not settle the question, but I found a couple of long to short makeovers, with several stages in between, that ought to allow everyone to take a crack at the "which looks best" issue. They aren`t celebrities (at least as far as I know--I can`t read German), and it takes several steps to get to the pictures--the link takes you only to the homepage--but it`s worth it.
When you get to the homepage, click on the "Freunde" tab, then on the "Diether" tab, then on the picture captioned "aus Zeitschriften." "Mit jedem Schnitt wirds kürzer," "Carolin, and "Hannelore" all show progressively shorter haircuts; the others are before and after. In most of the cases, I personally think the shortest hairdos are less attractive than some of the in-between versions, Andrea being the exception, but her bob isn`t really all that short compared to some of the others. The last picture in "Haare abschneiden" is hideous, though it isn`t clear from the photos whether that is the finished result, and Carolin looked much better with a short bob than the super-short spiky crop.
The series on Hannelore is especially dramatic, going from below waist length through six different hair lengths, ending up in a Katie Couric-like crop. The series doesn`t show her hair styled in waist length, only after it has been cut to mid-back, but all of the styles are attractive. For my money, her hair looked best in the medium lengths, with "schnitt 2," a very long slightly assymetric bob, being absolutely gorgeous, though probably a bit impractical for every day wear. I think the 1st and 3rd cuts are the most attractive all around cuts and #`s 4 and 5 a bit too short.
Take a look & cast your vote.

If I followed it correctly...I liked the bob on the first one (yellow sweater), I liked the short spikey `do on the second one and I liked the 2nd to last picture on the 3rd one. I wish I could read German!

Which only illustrates my point. I agree on the bob in the yellow sweater (mit jedem Schnitt wirds kürzer)but don`t care much for Carolin`s spiky `do. Hannelore`s second to last cut is cute, but I liked the slightly longer ones better. I thought the two shortest cuts made her look older.
Think what a boring place it would be if we all liked the same thing.
