QuoteReplyTopic: Growing out Bangs. Posted: February 22 2002 at 3:46pm
Okay, i`ve always had bangs, but I usually brush them off to the sides, and they`ve ever looked very good. They are always wavy or going the wrong way. So, i want them to grow out, but it`s so hard for me! I`ve been trying to do it for about 3 years, and I know that if I keep cutting them they`ll never grow out. Anyone have any ideas about how to keep them back and have them look okay, and not look stupid. i know how to do them as soon as they get long enough to tuck behind my ears, but It takes so long. i get to about just below my eyes, and I get an impulsive urge to cut them! right now they are 3 1/2 inches long. how can I get them to grow quick? HELP PLEASE! Any suggestions are welcome.

I grew my bangs out from "do-able length" to where they`re at now (just past my waist). My bangs have taken about 13 years to get this long. Here`s what I did:
I started growing my bangs at 12 1/2. I don`t recall ever trimming my bangs as they grew out, so that could account for why they have taken so long to get to the length they are now. I also never used any gel or hairspray on them to hold them back. From "do-able" length to below my eyes, I used to let them fall into my face when I could get away with it, but when my folks got on my case about it, I pulled them back, plus a small amount of front hairs, into a barette; sort of like the half-ponytail style. The hard part was getting them past my nose. I hated it when I breathed in and the hairs got stuck up my nose. I came very close to cutting them short again at that point. It sounds like yours are right at that point. From below my eyes to my mouth, I wore headbands. A headband did the double duty of getting my bangs out of my face, plus made my hair look like it was all one length even though it was not. From my mouth to my chin, they were long enough to push behind my ears, although the little curl at the bottom annoyed the heck out of me. At this point, I changed the part in my hair from way on the side to closer to the middle so my bangs would stay behind my ears a little better. By the time my bangs reached my shoulders at 14, they stayed out of my way most of the time, but I had to make sure I had a ponytail holder handy to pull them behind my head with. Once they reached BSL at 15, they blended in pretty well. The rest of my hair was between six to ten inches longer than my bangs the entire time. When my hair reaches classic length (below my butt), I am going to maintain it there until my bangs, which are about 6 inches shorter than the rest, catch up.
Nowadays, they have alot of nifty hair toys that work wonders for holding stray hairs back that will make it alot easier for you than it was for me. Good Luck, and have patience! The look is worth the effort. :)
1"/37"/42"+ to see how long it will grow
My hair is almost to my knees (~50") and continues to grow longer. Rather slowly these days, but that's ok - it's still *growing*.
