Ok...don`t panic. I,m sure your hair is growing but not as fast as you would like it to. You say it`s been 4 months so normally that would mean about 2 inches. Well...if I remember you just got a trim about 2 weeks ago...right? Well a trim removed some length even a 1/2 inch trim can wipeout a months worth of growth. Your hair is growing your just getting impatient. Remember what you told me about having confidence? Now, you must have confidence AND patience. Don`t forget even a teeniny trim will wipe out a months growth. DON"T give up! Later

AmberJune--- I know the feeling. I`ve been trying to grow my hair out too and now I feel as though it`s not growing. Let me know how the hair vitamins from this site work. I don`t mind spending the money IF they work.

Maybe it`s because of the season, my hair grows about an inch a month in the spring and summer but very slowly in the fall and winter. I wanted to let you know not to let the other long hair board get you down. Most of the time I just lurk over there because they can get kinda cliquey. :)

Patience! If there`s one thing that you need to learn to develop when growing your hair long, it`s patience. I remember very clearly when I decided that I wanted long hair that I wanted it waist length FAST and it was about an inch long at the time. It took me 6 years to grow it from that length to my waist, (that averages to about 4 1/2 inches a year, by the way) and I thought that was forever. I`d see all these girls with hair growing so much faster than mine, but the big difference between theirs and mine is that mine was well maintained, and their ends looked like they went through the wringer.
A good "trick" is to wear it up in a bun or back in a braid often, changing the position of the hairtie so it does not damage your ends. Also, make sure you use gentle hair accessories. Your hair follicles won`t have the extra strain if you wear it up, and instead of focusing on keeping the hair in the follicle, it can focus on growing the hair. Plus, it helps protect it from breakage. Scalp massages do wonders, too. I don`t know any specific motions, but what I do is simply rub my scalp gently when I`m shampooing. When I`m done with my shower, I`ll do the same thing, except a bit more vigorously to shake out some of the water.
Good luck! Patience is virtue shared by few, but learned with length by long hair loving ladies.
My hair is almost to my knees (~50") and continues to grow longer. Rather slowly these days, but that's ok - it's still *growing*.
1. wearing hair up will make your hair grow faster because it "pulls" your hair.
2. wearing hair up will cause it to break off.
And I don't know whether to wear it up at night when I go to bed or not either!
By the way.. thanks sherry for your comment about the boards (o:
It depends on how you wear your hair up. If you use thin ponytail holders with the metal connectors, then you run the risk of bending and eventually breaking your hair. I suggest using either the "no damage" ponytail holders (the ones without the metal connectors) or the "hair hoisery" ponytail holders because those are the most gentle on your hair. In addition, scrunchies are wonderful. The velvet ones grip your hair and don`t let it fall out, and the satiny ones slide off your hair nicely and don`t cause any damage or breakage.
I discovered that wearing my hair in dutch braids (inside out french braids) on either side of my head distributed the weight of my hair nicely and it didn`t get caught in anything. The main point of wearing your hair up is so you forget about it, and it will do its thing. I knew a lady who wore her hair like this all the time, and she discovered one day it was past her behind loose. If you pull on your hair, it will be more likely to get pulled out rather than grow. Scalp massages do much better to encourage growth. It`s okay to do the symbolic "grow, grow, grow!" pull, but don`t make a habit of it. Chances are, you`ll end up stretching out and weakening your hair.
I didn`t start wearing my hair up to bed regularly until very recently. I simply got tired of the mass tangles in the morning from tossing and turning. I`ve been doing it on and off since it was BSL, however. I usually wore it in a high braid, but loosely gathered, not braided super tight. Now, I either wear it in a nylon stocking (I`m trying to avoid the waviness that a bun creates) or in a bun held in place with a velvet scrunchie.
I don`t know which long hair site is being referred to here, but if it is the one I suspect it is, there is alot of cliqueishness there. Unless your hair is waist length, you won`t get much help. It is focused mainly on maintaining long hair as opposed to growing long hair. Interestingly, because of that site, I actually started to believe that my hair was *short* at tailbone/hip length.
Good luck and have patience...the look is worth the effort.
1"/38"/42"+ to see how long it will grow. alot of very fine light/medium brown hair.

I really like your advice Nicole. I am finding that my hair is getting too long when I go to bed. I`m getting whiplashes at times during the night and I find that I really lose sleep. My hair is getting past my waist and I am seriously thinking of trimming it a bit just to give myself a break.
I started growing it at 16.5 inches.. it is now 18 inches. So maybe it is growing lol.
I started wearing my hair in two loose pig tails on top of my head at night! This seems to be working great.. not to mention I look really cute in pig tails.. like a little girl hahahaha (o:

I feel like my hair hasn`t grown in months! I know it`s getting longer b/c I can put it up and stuff w/out it falling own, but it doesn`t look any longer to me.
I`m going for my bimonthly trim in about a 1 1/2 weeks. I always ask my hairdresser if it has grown compared to my highlight roots. The thing is, I see the roots, but not the lenght. I have very healthy hair, so I`m not sure what`s going on!!!!!
AmberJune, Your hair is already at a good starting length, it looks fantastic up in your prom picture, you should wear it up all the time for a couple of months, then you will maybe focus more on the styles than the length and it will probably start growing of its own accord Mine is a bit shorter than yours and I braid it or wear it up or in a clip every day to stop me measuring it or getting obsessed about the length!Luv Ally

Hey Amber. I`m happy you are seeing results! I think some of your problem is that you are cutting your hair too often. You should get your hair cut maybe twice a year, never twice a month. Try going for a month or two or even three and see if you can see more results. Good luck! Hope this has helped!
