I was lying in bed on night, and I leaned back into the candle that was sitting on my headboard. I didn't know that I had caught my hair on fire right away. I heard a crinkling noise, like paper being rubbed by my hair,so I ignored it. A couple of seconds later, I realized that my hair was in flames! I jumped out of the bed and started slapping myself in the head to put the flames out. When all the excitement was over, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.

There were no flames, and I never found the damaged part, but I did smell it. I also have a gas stove, and with a growing beard (over a foot long now), cooking is hazardous. My beard doesn't simply hang put. It likes to explore whatever it is I am doing, reaching out like an octopus with many arms, probing for who-knows-what. So far the only hair casualty in the kitchen is the hair on my hands. I guess I'm lucky in that regard.
