I recommend getting some curlers for your hair. You should put them in after taking your shower at night and let your hair air dry with the curlers in. You can choose how tight your curl is by choosing the appropriate curler size. You can adjust the style of the curl by how you twist your hair around the curler. For more of a spiral curl, use a smaller curler and twist the bunch of hair before you curl it around the curler. Sleeping in curlers is NOT easy but it is the easiest way to make the curl stay without heat. Remember not to brush your hair after you take the curlers out. Style with fingers and styling products only. For better, longer lasting hold, you may want to add a styling product while your hair is still wet, right before you put the strand around a curler. Mousse or maybe a spray gel.
The curler thing probably won`t be such a good idea to do this if the weather is going to be humid or rainy...the style won`t stay as well with this kind of weather (or might get out of control). As for types of curlers, I found some neat ones that comes in several sizes at my local grocery store for only $12 or so. I use the largest curlers to take some of my curl and frizz out.
Best of luck getting the style you want. Get a friend to help you put in your curlers the first time... your arms will get tired!!!
