Ladies, do not destroy your hair with cheap products like pantene. Just because they have great commercials means nothing. They use Amonium Laurele Sulfate and a bunch of silicones to coat your hair. Tragic results, nothing but frizz and a waxy coating on your hair - it don`t work. Furthermore, if you buy it you will continue to use it, and the more you use silicone based products on your hair, the coating gets worse and worse. Your best bet is to buy a more natural product, like aveda`s or a salon product with more expensive ingredients. Be good to your hair and it will be good to you, or at least better to you. I advise a hair sunblock to keep the best condition of your hair, and Mastey is a really good one. Only $7 and has the moisturizing factor. Also advise after conditioning, a small dollop of alcholfree condition in a small dollop of gel and putting on your hair. Also, "Lottabody" setting lotion is WONDERFUL for defining and texturizing curly hair, the best thing i have tried to date and it is only $3.
Goodluck everyone, i know how it is.
p.s. At least 2x a month do a quick vinigar rinse for your hair to get rid of styling residue. Just mix half cup of water with half cup white vinigar and slowly pour over hair. The results are great. Cheers.

Are you referring to Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate or Ammonium Laureth Sulfate? I suppose it doesn`t really matter, since both ingredients are considered to be gentle cleansing agents, and should not harm your hair. These ingredients are common in many "salon" products as well.
(FYI, my source is Paula Begoun`s "Don`t Go Shopping for Hair Care Products Without Me", and I`ve found it to be a great reference.)
What you should avoid is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, TEA Lauryl Sulfate, Triethanalomine, and Alkyl Sodium Sulfate, as they can be drying and irritating to the scalp.
I haven`t seem the ingredient list for the "new" Pantene products, but I do agree with you to be careful with the older products, but not for the same reason. Many Pantene Pro-V products contain Ammonium Xylenesulfanate, which is a nail polish solvent, not so good for the hair. Some Finesse products contain this as well.
I`m curious about some of the opinions on silicones here. Are you aware that Aveda`s Shampure contains silicone oils (as do many, many salon products. Just check the ingredient list for dimethicone, cyclomethicone, or phenyldimethicone.)? Which I don`t think is a bad thing, since silicone can do some good things for your hair. This is a direct quote from Begoun`s book: "Dimethicone has an amazing attraction to the hair shaft and the spaces between the cuticle. Not only does dimethicone want to nestle in between damaged, lifted cuticles, but it is relatively impervious to the force of water trying to rush it down the drain". They also help protect your hair from heat damage. They can build up on your hair, but a good build-up removing shampoo every once in a while should do the trick.
Anyways, for what`s it`s worth, those are my two cents.
