QuoteReplyTopic: Handful of hair after combing. HELP!!! Posted: June 11 2001 at 12:54pm
I have tried the conditioner in the shower thing for years. Everyday I still rip out a handful of hair. I`m very concered with the amount of hair I`m losing. I`m surprised I`m not bald yet. Does anyone have this problem or a solution?? My hair is just too knappy to comb out when its dry. -Coll
I`m glad to hear that someone else has the same problem. I`ve been pulling out handfuls of hair for years. My husband cannot believe how much hair comes off of my head in the shower and that I have to spend five minutes just cleaning the tub when I`m finished. Like I said, this has been going on for years, and I still have so much hair on my head. I just don`t understand why it falls out and why I`m not bald yet. I hope someone has a solution or an answer out there for us.

humans have around 100000 hairs give or take a few, for those with a full head of hair. so losing 50-100 a day won`t make you go bald - I`m always amazed at the amount of hair I lost while combing in the shower too - lots of it! I still have a headful of thick hair - so thick I can`t get a normal size hairglove on it - had to get the extra wide. So it sound like normal shedding.
Coll, That has been happening to me for quite some time also. When I went to my stylist he told me that I needed a better conditioner than I was already using because my hair was so dry. I was using bedhead self absorbed and a leave in conditioner. So he gave me artec kiwi and I haven`t had any clumps of hair fall out any more. So I would think that maybe all you need is more conditioning for your hair. Maybe a deep conditioning mask once a week. Hope this helps out. Michelle

Hi there - see my post on detangling long hair. Even if your hair isn`t terribly long, try putting oodles of conditioner in it (I use Pantene and Redkin All Soft - brilliant stuff but EXpensive). Then DO NOT COMB, but run your fingers through your hair, whilst it`s submerged underwater (as in a bath) if possible. If you don`t want to do this in the bath, then use your fingers as a comb as much as possible, until all the tangles are out. You will still lose some hair, but not nearly as much as combing it would do. Good luck!
